Miami Duke game

I remember that time the ACC penalized that crew for winding the clock ofter Bay Bay stepped out of bounds to stop the clock at our place just before the half. Wait? What? That crew wasnt suspended? öööö the ACC front office.

Calls are missed and ööööed up all the time. Why is ööööing Duke so ööööing special?

I remember Reggie Ball faking a spike and how it could have been a big play for us right before halftime but Ron Cherry and co. blew it dead because they weren't paying attention enough to realize that the ball never left his hand. Still one of the most pathetic displays I've ever seen from an officiating crew. Reggie turned to him with the ball in his hand, basically asking "what the öööö are you doing?" and the man just shook his head "no" at him, as if to say, "no you totally spiked it."

Pathetic press release by ACC. No mention of the rest of the wretched calls throughout the game including the blown calls during Duke's final drive (3rd PI call was a joke, ball never crossed the line on their "TD". Favorable clock stoppages and resets). The league would be improved immensely by kicking out the NC schools.

Did Cutcliffe write that press release? I have never seen where a conference has come out and officially said they blew a game-deciding call.

I'm being gullible and that press release was a joke, right?

WTF?!? Suspended for not gift wrapping the game for Puke? Bunch of bullshit. This league we're in is a total joke.

No, it's real. Not sure I see the problem with it, seems pretty standard to me. I'm enjoying Duke's suffering as much as anyone but the officials screwed them over completely at the end of that game.

I imagine the suspension is really coming down because of how they handled it. Taking nine minutes to review, saying they reviewed an unreviewable block in the back penalty, reviewing it twice...it was a total debacle.

I think if all the calls were the same but they just reviewed it a normal amount of time and confirmed it, they wouldn't have been suspended.

I think it's probably why they got two games instead of one. Calls botched that badly which determine the outcome of the game tend to result in a game suspension.

What does it take for an ACC ref to get fired?

Obviously something more than gross incompetence.

He wasn't down at the 25. There was a clear block in the back midway through the play at the 15, right after a lateral. The rest of the blocks were on the side.

Edit: Seeing the press release and looking at it again, #1 was down when being tackled by #21. It really didn't look like it in real time, but the replay official should have done better. How were blocks in the back reviewed?

One million times this. öööö Swofford, he only cares because a tobacco road school got ACC ref'd.

No way you suspend this crew for two if the exact same thing happened at Miami and Duke was the winner.

Since Cutcliffe has beaten us twice in a row while tweaking CPJ a bit, I say our first three plays on offense next year should all include at least eight laterals. Might just get under his skin and into his head.

All I can say about Duke, as much as this pains me, is go UNC!

Still have my program from the 1971 Peach Bowl. Biggest player for either team? 245 lbs. I look at that every so often in amazement. Both teams were tiny compared to today. That and the fact that GT had two black players on the roster and Ole Miss had none. Strange looking back. Our listed starting OL - 230, 216, 235, 240, 240.
