Miami figured out the no huddle signals

We really are trying to play checkers during a chess match.

He needs to make the signals more complicated while he's at it. The assistant only used one signal per play and I only saw about 5 different signals used all game - probably one for each play.

I'm curious what the pictures would be if we signaled with the big cardboard signs.

We should hold a Stingtalk Competition for Paul Johnson quadsigns.

In defense of the coaching staff, I would say that the signals were for the base call, and of course most of our plays allow for several options.

CPJ on the show last night was asked about the 4th and 3 or 2 or whatever with 5 mins to go. He said it was a QB option to run or throw, and that we missed two blocks, either of which would've given us the first down yardage. So he had to make the throw.

Of course it was the players fault. Johnson called the perfect play.

So he should come up with some plays that it doesn't matter if we block or not then, huh?

I'm assuming that you aren't attending games this year. But if you were, you would see just how terrible our edge blocking is. How is that a coaching issue? Our ABs are just flopping to the ground trying to take out the corners and/or LBs.

It's a coaching issue in that the coach is responsible for who's out there.

Remember Greg Smith? He was a pretty good receiver. My lasting memory of him is getting dragged off the field by his collar when he pulled up and whiffed a block that caused a likely touchdown to become a tackle for loss. Conversely, Robbie Godhigh wasn't recruited out of high school, but he got a scholarship and started over faster, stronger players because he drilled his cut blocks. As a result, he got rewarded with carries. We were efficient on the edge with him out there.

So if our players out there now aren't making the blocks, the coaches need to take them out. If there are no alternatives who can block better, then either we're not teaching it or we're bringing in players with no commitment to trying to win. So while I agree with you that the coach can't go out there and make the blocks himself, he and his staff have all year to prepare players for this moment. It's one thing to just be born slower or weaker than someone else. It's something else when you have pretty good athletes whiffing blocks.

Always nice to be able to shut that big mouth of yours.
I don't feel the need to explain myself to you. So if you're going to be a holier than thou douche because you go to a couple more games than me a year, have at it hoss.

This is ridiculous and frankly unacceptable, but just to be clear, this was only for the hurry up, right? Or does he no longer send an AB in with the call most plays?

If I had to guess... I'd say it was Tevin Washington signaling plays? Saw him a time or two on TV with that bright ass yellow shirt on just like the guy that stands by Roof on D with the bright ass yellow shirt on signaling in or D signals.

And if CPJ had any damn sense, he would have started sending false signals through the signal caller and sent the real signal in some other way.

And here I was thinking Groh was an idiot.

If he was really smart, he should have never publicly said this, but let it "leak" to future opponents, and THEN send false signals. The ole long con.

You mean Coach McCollum?
