Several folks have linked to Michael Cunningham's opinion piece for the AJC about the loss. (Here if you haven't read it yet.)

IMHO, his opinion piece is way blunter than previous pieces by the regular AJC crew. Dude calls a spade a spade. Kind of refreshing, though I'm sure he's made a lifelong enemy in CPJ.

I don't remember reading any GT coverage by this guy before, but he's obviously been covering other sports stuff for the AJC for a while. Anybody know anything about him? What's his reputation on other stories?

Johnson said he didn’t consider going back to Oliver. A questioner noted that Oliver seemed to have a rhythm.

“Well, that’s your opinion,” Johnson said. “If you get to be the coach next year, put him in.”
Wow. If that someone got to be the coach next year, I'm guessing he/she probably wouldn't recruit a QB who can't throw the ball in the first place.

The AJC lost a columnist (Jeff Schultz) to The Athletic.

They don't have a new one yet. Bradley has not written since before Labor Day (I don't know if he's on vacation or what)

So Cunningham has been elevated a bit from reporter (beat writer) to columnist. Steve Hummer has written a few more columns lately as well. Cunningham has been at the AJC for years, but he has no track record on opinion pieces until the last month or so.

Sound like Cunningham just about hit the nail on the head to me

Good. Praise the coach when he’s winning and tell it like it is when he’s not. Sugar coating the situation does not get us closer to fixing the issues.

Is this the guy that asked the question to which CPJ responded “if they let you coach next year...”?

CPJ is spouting that shit because he got his contract extended in April and knows we won't do anything about it. Any efforts towards stability of the program are undermined with a response like that. Just not a good look.

blaming the refs is Sandy Vag material. CPJ clearly reads StingTalk.

“Him” being Cunningham or Quinlan? I assume Cunningham?

CPJ doesn’t seem to think dealing with the press is part of his Multi Million $ / year job.

And he thinks nobody should question his greatness.

Poor rep for Ga Tech.

It was Quinlan that asked the question. I liked CPJ’s answer. He’s got balls unlike some of you so called fans.

It wasn’t an answer. It was a childish, self absorbed, spoiled brat comment.

He might be a capable OC for FCS , J.C., or H.S.

But he is too ego centric, stubborn, arrogant to care enough for an entire P5 program to do what is best for his employer and S/As.

Quinlan’s question was stupid, and was really more of an accusational statement anyway.

I don't know the tone with which it was delivered, and I think CPJ is pretty annoyed by KQ most of the time... but at heart it was a very fair question. TO had done everything asked of him and scored a couple of TD's. Suddenly we get to a passing down and he never sees the field again.

I think TQM did a good job in the game, and I don't think the QB change had much impact on the final outcome. Nevertheless, it was a reasonable question.

The question is at 2:10 in this video.

In context the interview was pretty fair and civil both ways. PJ was spot on with several of his comments and KQ was great with his questions. I forgot about the dropped interception.

I honestly think putting TQ back in was not the issue. The defense had shown an adjustment to the speed option with Oliver and I think the magic was about used up with his 3 or 4 plays that he was capable of running. PJ should have just been honest and explained his logic instead of being snarky.
