Michael Cunningham

Thanks for that link. Neither the question nor the answer actually sound as chippy as I thought were from the transcript.

That said, dang, does CPJ look unhappy and uncomfortable. He is obviously feeling the heat. I'm surprised the way he described the fumble, "You have to care enough to hold onto the ball." That seems pretty harsh. I wonder what the locker room situation is.

It's one thing for CPJ to lose us ignorant observers, but if he loses the team he really is outta here soon.

Johnson is one of those people who makes no effort to tidy up his public image. He is utterly competitive and takes losing like an attack on his mama. Donnan used to be condescending to his fans and supporters, and it was cited as one of the reasons when he was fired. Here's the difference: Saban just went off on a reporter far, far worse, but no one will remember it five minutes from how. Johnson has much less margin for error.

Pretty accurate. PJ does not suffer fools gladly. I've known him for 20-plus years. And away from the cameras, dude has a terrific sense of humor - very sarcastic.
He also hates losing more than he enjoys winning, I think. He is extraordinarily competitive.
As to losing the locker room, no, I don't think so. That's not the first time he's said or done something like that after a game. He actually has a pretty good rapport with his players. The guys I know who played for him at Southern love him.

Those guys you knew from Southern who love him... probably won NC's with him. Not as much fun to deal with the curmudgeon who doesn't win. When a team is losing, and the coach is pointing fingers at players who "don't care enough not to fumble"... it's a problem.

I've dealt with him and found the same. Kind of quiet and friendly if approached, away from football. A friend knew him as an assistant coach at Southern and said he was 180 degrees from the caustic guy you see in press conferences. I'd hate to have my job depend on 12 performances by students per year, then immediately have to face a horde of reporters trying to get a good quote. I think he detests that and having to take phone calls on the radio with idiotic coaching advice. You'll see in Pitt if the team responds to this loss with anger. I think they will. If not, of course...

Heisman had a much worse qoute about caring to hold onto the ball.

It was Quinlan that asked the question. I liked CPJ’s answer. He’s got balls unlike some of you so called fans.
Right, the guy who makes 5 million a year has got balls for bullying somebody who is doing their job (for which they probably get paid 1/100th the amount) by asking the question half the tech fan base wanted to know the answer to.

Awwwww....was KQ getting bullied now?
I’m pretty sure KQ had no issues and wouldn’t have been bothered because CPJ has behaved like this with him and a bunch of other reporters for years.

But it sure looks like CPJ tries to bully his way around reporters. And even if that wasn’t what he is trying to do, it’s hardly admirable or a sign of balls.

A sign of balls would have been admitting that this loss was because of a lot more than a fumble or some questionable refereeing.

Maybe the two ejections and a critical hold weren't the cause of the loss, but the certainly didn't help.

At least they got the chop block call out of the way early. Was Beamer nearby?

A thumbs up and a +1
So we have 30 yards of penalties and two players ejected, one of whom happens to be what may be our best cover guy back there, and you say it didn't contribute to the loss? We didn't miss Benson either, right?

The internet... the land that reading comprehension forgot. "Didn't contribute"? The post was

So what I said was that while they did contribute, it would have been manlier of CPJ to talk about more than the flukey moments. Were there players out of position? Did they not seem to know the schemes well enough? Were they not reading the offense well? Did Woody have trouble getting calls in? Is there a learning curve that hasn't been mastered? Is he simply unable to hire a decent DC? I have no idea about any of that, but blaming losses on bad luck isn't persuasive when you keep getting the same luck over and over again.

It was a 4 minute interview. Perhaps from here our you can hand him a sheet of his acceptable talking points as he's leaving the field.

Keep in mind that he just came off a very hot field and he’s not exactly a spring chicken. I imagine that he was “feeling the head” in more ways than one at that moment.
