More Praise for Sims

I fully expect him to occupy one of the top 5 slots on this list before he is done at GT

We were blessed to get Joe Ham and Godsey back to back. I suspect Sims may be on this list by the end of the year... he is throwing over 200 yards per game so far.

If he stays above 195 YPG, he passes Reggie for 10th. Godsey's is a bit more imposing in future 12 game season. Gonna have to be around 260 YPG. Of course, if he does that, we'd have the ACCC and bowl/playoffs to consider too

I know it's waaaaaay too early but he's at 260.5/game right now against two good defenses. I looked back at the data on that chart and calculated it out based on games played. Goose's #1 rank is in 13 games. JoeHam's #2 rank came in only 12 games. Even so, that was 255 yards/game. Reggie Ball's #10 spot and Shawn Jones' #6 spot were both sophomore seasons. Everybody else on there was a Jr or Sr. Only one on that last made it in 11 games, which was Shawn Jones #4 spot in 1992 as a Sr. Sims has 521 passing yards now with 9 games to go. If he can manage to stay healthy and play all 11 games, if he averages 181 ypg from here on out he'll make the top 10 list in only 11 games as a true freshman. That would be impressive and I think it's extremely possible. Hell a couple breakout games with 300+ passing yards against some of the weaker D's and it'll be almost guaranteed.

A true freshman with no spring ball is supposed to be a polished product? I mean, if you can't see the tools there, I dunno what to tell you.
I think paramedic's point is reasonable - I read it the way I think he meant it. Of course we all see the fantastic upside. But, tbh, the Heisman talk is a bit premature and borderline cringeworthy after only 2 games. Can we let the kid grow into the role and develop without that kind of delusional pressure? It just seems everyone is in such a hurry to announce something really important that it takes the meaning out of it.

Sims has been extremely impressive so far, but let’s put the brakes on the Heisman hype train for now.

I would have said Reggie Ball would be a Heisman contender in 4 years after his debut freshman game and we all know how that turned out.

Reggie just needed to humbleize himself

Winner Winner...Chicken Dinner. Finally someone with some reading comprehension and interpretative skills. It is way way premature to label this kid a Heisman hopeful after two games played. I have been on this board a long time, and it was the same way after we beat Auburn during Reggie Ball's frehshman year. Nothing new here but I would've thought we had all learned our lesson by now.

“Could be”. Sure. Many, many things can derail the effort so “very unlikely“ is also true. Health, of course. NFL prospects and there’s also the possibility that one person might even be better. Heck, he could be the best and still lose. Joe Ham was the best His senior year but lost the Heisman to Ron “lifetime achievement“ Dayne.

it seems very likely Sims will be the best QB GT has had in 20 years, but he’s only played 2 games. We have 3 other ATL QBs who may get snaps too.

You would've said Reggie Ball would be a Heisman contender in 4 years after going 15/24 for 147 yards, 0 TD, and 1 INT in a 24-13 loss to a BYU team that went 4-8?
