More Praise for Sims

2 TDs and 4 INTs in 2 games are Heisman caliber stats...who knew? He might need to invert that ratio going forward.

Sims has been extremely impressive so far, but let’s put the brakes on the Heisman hype train for now.

I would have said Reggie Ball would be a Heisman contender in 4 years after his debut freshman game and we all know how that turned out.
Yep, same with TaQuon Marshall after his first game.

Guess you guys dont remember Reggie's first game. Underwhelming to say the least. Hell even in his 2nd game, the big win over Auburn he didn't light up any stat categories. Defense won us that game.

Anyway, the point isn't that I'm saying Gibbs should/will be a Heisman candidate. My post was just to show that he is getting more national recognition. And for those of you that don't know, PFF is a large platform and highly regarded.

Winner Winner...Chicken Dinner. Finally someone with some reading comprehension and interpretative skills. It is way way premature to label this kid a Heisman hopeful after two games played. I have been on this board a long time, and it was the same way after we beat Auburn during Reggie Ball's frehshman year. Nothing new here but I would've thought we had all learned our lesson by now.

I mean, that's just the way it is. Guys like Fields, Trevor, etc. were Heisman hopefuls before they ever even played a collegiate game. You can tell if the physical tools are there from day 1, and that's all anyone is saying with Sims. He has the physical tools to play at that level. It goes without saying that it takes more than that to actually get there. So, I don't bother saying it.

Yeah, calling Sims a Heisman hopeful at this point is definitely a little premature.

He's going to have stiff competition with Gibbs.

We're also probably going to have some receivers that are in contention as well. Sims might well end up in 3rd or 4th place.

And we may have a defensive candidate in there somewhere. Desmond Howard won it with a fair season at DB with a few TD returns and a pose

Yes. In my mind. Ron Dayne was mediocre with padded stats. If we would have let Hamilton pad his stats, he would have easily won. As it was, he really needed to beat FSU
Pretty sure the Wake Forest game is what killed him. I literally blame Ted Roof for Joe not winning the Heisman.

Reggie never looked like a future NFL QB (not saying Sims is a sure thing but that is his ceiling). He looked like a very good true Freshman college QB. Reggie's problem is that he never really got better. I think Reggie was an extremely hard work and took the game serious; so much so that he basically reached his potential as a Freshman at Tech. Everyone expected him to make a lot of progress but he never really did. Classic over achiever.

The other hypothesis is he received awful QB coaching and was put into an awful offensive system with no hope of "looking good".

Sims' production is pretty incredible given how limited he is right now: OL is average at best. He isn't good at hitting deep balls; they aren't using the entire play book; he is learning to read college defenses; he is learning college game speed. Given his size and athleticism, if he improves even a little, he is going to be a top QB in the ACC. I'm sure he is going to improve a little.

The main stuff I want to see out of Sims in the next few games are protecting himself on runs (he got decleated a couple of times Saturday) and taking care of the ball (I can handle interceptions when he’s slinging it around if he can avoid fumbles).

Defensive players dont win Heisman’s unless the snowflake voters want it in the everything has to be fair world we live in now.

I am glad someone else sees he isn't accurate with the deep balls. Hopefully that is something that can be fixed like his decision making; but this Heisman talk is way too early. With this offense and the YAC that these receivers can generate, he should end up with some pretty stats though.

BTW, do you guys remember the "Nesbitt for Heisman" campaign and what a disaster that ended up being.

And national recognition is a key point to recruits to let them know they don't have to go to one of the usual factory schools to get noticed and build a brand for themselves. We should welcome every bit of this.

you have an astute eye for the obvious.
