My opinion on 07 football.....

Picture this...November 24, 2007. Georgia Tech is undefeated and has pummeled such notables as Miami and Virginia Tech. Having throttled UGly for three quarters, but leading by only 7 points late in the fourth quarter due to five very bad calls and six unfortunate bounces of the ball, Georgia Tech plays the game safely and after punting late in the game UGly returns the punt for a touchdown and on a trick play scores two for the go-ahead extra point. Georgia Tech moves the ball down field and from the four yard line on third down with fifteen seconds remaining kicks a field goal that is wide of the goal post by six inches.

Questions:
1. What happens to CG?
2. How many Tech fans go to the playoff and bowl games?
3. How many Tech fans cut their wrists, how many hang themselves and how many put a bullet through their head?

1. Fire his butt, of course! We'll never know why he stuck with Travis Bell for so long. If the backup wasn't ready to play, CCG should be fired for not developing a quality backup.

2. Plenty.

3. None committ harikari, but a few snipe anonymously
at the coach ad neauseam on message boards, finding fault with every little thing while calling those who won't play their smelly little game "mediocre loving nerds".

Why is it important for ccg to beat ugag when our other coaches come right out and say it does not matter? Why should he have to do it? cdh and CPH don't care, why should ccg?

It would put us on more of a national stage to beat teams from other states, like Samford, Duke, Army. Maybe Wes can get us on Elon's schedule.

I'm having a difficult time deciphering whether this is serious or completely sarcastic. I'm going to have to go with it being a satire of people saying the UGA game isn't important because that second paragraph is so fantastically outrageous.

Ok, I'll play. Here are my guesses; but first let me extend the hypothetical to include GT going to JAX and defeating FSU with a late field goal and then pushing on the the OB to loose a close one.

Keeps his job. The GT fans are lukewarm to him. On one hand he is the first GT coach to beat B. Bowden; Ross, Lewis, and Oleary were all failures in their multiple attempts. However, the UGA monkey on his back gains 500 lbs. If he couldn't beat UGA with one of Tech's best teams, it is doubtful to most fans he ever will.

JAX turnout is lighter than the previous year. People don't want a repeat of the previous year's performance in JAX, too much of a been there done that attitude. For the OB turnout is very good as people's spirits are lifted with the victory over FSU.

Not as many as last year. You can only commit suicide one time, ok, 9 times if you're a cat. However, those with those "house divided" car tags, actually start dividing their houses in divorce court. Child custody of course goes to the UGA side of the house because the kids want to be part of a winner.

4. What happens to UGA?
A subpar 8-3 UGA gets Richt off the hotseat by crushing FSU in the Peach Bowl. UGA fans start wearing "UGA = ACC Champs 2007" t-shirts.

5. What happens to the ACC?
Some fraternity brothers hang an ACC Champs flag over Sanford Stadium and the ACC has to protest publicily to get it removed. Sports rags start writing articles about how the ACC should be removed from the BCS (kinda like the PAC-10 saw not too long ago.).

This to me is the worst case scenario. I would much rather we loose to UGA as our 3rd or 4th loss as opposed to our first. Please don't let us loose to UGA again after going undefeated in the ACC.

Past Reasons the UGA game was critical:

(1.) Georgia sucks
(2.) Georgia fans are backwards arse kountry fricks
(3.) GT used to be in SEC and competed directly with Georgia for a conference championship.
(4.) After that, GT was an independent and had no conference to win, so beating Georgia was like the conference championship.
(5.) ACC had no championship game for a long time, so Georgia was always the last game, with a championship feeling. Plus FSU won the ACC all the time anyway.

Present Reasons the UGA game is critical:

(1.) Georgia sucks
(2.) Georgia fans are backwards arse kountry fricks

Because we are in our own BCS conference with a championship game and an automatic BCS birth, there is no question that the UGA game has lost some of its import. Playing in a BCS bowl game is a big stage with a big monetary reward.

I hate Georgia as much as ever, but I would--in general--trade winning our division and playing in the championship game to beating Georgia.

All that said, 6 in a row is too long and we need to take those bastards down. I believe we will do it this year unless we are completely unlucky with injuries.

There is no monetary reward for playing in a BCS bowl. All BCS money is distributed evently to teams in the conference.

This is exactly what happened last year...I would say it turned out pretty miserably. I know you say "in general", but it was a close loss to UGA and an even closer lose in the ACC Championship, so this is pretty much the best case scenario of what you described besides winning it.

Personally, I would take beating UGA over even winning the ACC...the ACC championship game just isn't that big of a deal. It's not like the SEC championship, where the entire city gets buzzing and the ticket is hot as hell. Sure it would be nice to win the ACC championship and play in a BCS bowl, but our reward for that would be to go play in the decrepyt Orange Bowl in a game that most people probably won't care about...give me beating UGA any day.

To me, the defining feature of college football is the passionate rivalries you just don't see in any other sport. At Georgia Tech, we are lacking in many areas compared to other football schools(big gameday crowds, national attention, media respect). The one thing we aren't lacking in is having a hated rival. To downplay the importance of the UGA game is to downplay the greatest thing about college football and to supress our passion in favor of what we're told by sponsors and the NCAA to care about(the BCS).

I see all the time people complaining about pros who play for the money and for recognition and not love of the game...in my eyes saying that beating Georgia is not the most important game on our schedule barring a national championship is the fan equivalent of that. Sure winning the ACC might give us some nice numbers we could rattle off...but what ever happened to living in the moment and good old fashioned hate? I'm pretty sure if we had won 6 in a row, there would not be many UGA fans saying some of what has been said in this thread.

TECH's recent run with the mutts is about like the current ATL Braves. The bats are silent. Find a way to win at least. Preferably bring home dressed mutt bacon for everybody. It's high time.

Let's get ready to rumble. Ain't gone be easy. May not be pretty. But it's high time.

Hey RM-2,
I wanna hear you tell the new ones here about how we need to do the first play of the game against ND. Last year you nailed it. Can U do it again?

BTW, why not carry it over that bunch over yonder too.

ROMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! What's up my friend????

I have a few special thoughts on that first game. I gotta try and keep a calm demeanor with gameday still quite a few days away.

AHHHHHHH what the hell!!!!!!! First play from scrimmage we line up in a 5 man front and before the ball is even snapped all 5 fire off the ball and knock the cold codded crap off of every single gold domer on the line. Take the 15 yarder tell 'em to kiss our ass and we will see you rest of the afternoon you bunch of a**holes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So let's take a vote. Which is more important...beating UGly or winning the ACC? Essobee votes:
BEAT UGly!!

Edited to say: I live in Florida with a lot of UF friends. They have beaten UGly 15 of the last 17 and they love each victory just like it was the first. And you think we hate UGly?

This year(after 6 in a row) beating UGA. but if it were turned around and we'd won 6 in a row--ACC.

ahhh--beating uga period.

I am a firm believer of having it all, so I say BOTH.

Let's beat those sorry inbreds and then take it to the house in the ACCCG game!

I still believe that--from a national perspective--winning our division and playing in the ACCCG does more to raise our program's profile than does beating Georgia.

Further, going to ACCCG means you have a decent chance of winning it, which would bring even more prestigue to the program.

Then again, I do not live in Georgia anymore, so the lack of close proximity to the nadlickers may afford me a less emotional position on the subject.

Yeah, there's your problem right there. Go live in Georgia for a while and I think you may change your tune.

decrepyt Orange Bowl in a game that most people probably won't care about.

1) both losses we by 3 points

2) the orange bowl is played in dolphin stadium :laugher: not the orange bowl stadium.

I am just sick of Ugag

Man I wanna beat them soooooooo badly. Sick of listening to family. Sick of every idiot calling me on my cell as soon as the buzzer sounds. I straight out HATE them. I probably won't call anyone when we win this year. It will be enough that they will dread my call when we beat those bastiches this year.

1) So they were...somehow the ACC champ game seemed closer. Perhaps it was just because I felt there was no way we could beat UGA with the team configured as was. Anyway, both were quite close.

2) Very fair point :). Still doesn't change what I said though, other than that the stadium isn't decrepyt.

Beating UGag should not be 1# on the agenda, winning the conference should be.... if your the coach talking to the players. But in reality beating UGag is THE most important part of the season. supose we do go through the ACC undeafeated, In order for any poll to respect Tech at the end of the season, we can't lose to an average SEC team after romping the ACC, every analyst will hammer the fact that one of the best teams in the ACC can't beat a run of the mill SEC team, and therefore shouldnt be ranked high because of the low level of competition in the ACC, and most importantly no recruit in his right mind is gonna come to Atlanta after 7 strait loses to a team right down the road. Winning the ACC championship means a trophy and a BCS bowl, but beating the nutsuckers means respect, and recruits with more than 3 stars

GT needs to win every game. That starts with the Fish eaters on Sept 1.

UGA is a monkey that will alwayws be on our backs.

We will always lose to them as long as GTs easiest major is UGAs hardest.

I am calling the president to petition for 1) a nursing school 2) a college of education 3) a sports physiology degree for undergrads. (Hell we have a Graduate level one now) 4) a pupetry technology degree( this would support the current pupetry industry that has already graduated from UGA with inovative technology like "the claw" as seen on america's next inventor)

I hate losing to Georgia more than any other team on our schedule by a factor of 100 but that game does not dictate the success of our program.

Winning the ACC and playing in a BCS bowl are more important to the program than beating the dogs.

But having said that, I hope to all that is good and holy that we pay those knuckle-dragging rednecks back for every one of those 6 in three glorious hours that will live in infamy for this and every generation of UGa fans for all eternity.

Woah there buddy. A win will give us bragging rights for a year, but it won't undo the 51-7 losses. We'll need to string a few in a row before we can begin the proper taunting UGA deserves.

I like Chan, but the win you are describing is just never going to happen with him as the coach. As I've stated before, Chan coaches as if we are in the NFL: Just win by a point.

We won't ever have the personnel to destroy a team like UGA. That only happens for us against second tier teams. And since Chan always plays it close, our games against decent opponents are always going to be close.
