I am not making a comparison of them as overall runners - obviously Skov was an interior bruiser and Cottrell is a quick A-Back. The comparison is strictly that they both seem to be easily tackled. Durrrr... (uh oh another durrrr thread coming)Skov is the worst comparison anyone could possibly make. He was supposed to be our answer to the BB position but was completely ineffective. Cottrell was supposed to be our answer to the AB position and has always been productive and at times terrific. I get your comparison, though, which is unable to make the first guy miss (which coincidentally is my problem with TQM), but I can live with this if the first contact is 10+ yards down the field.

Should have had 357When you run for 90 yards in a D1 football game on the road I'll then take your criticisms seriously of a guy who did just that.
öööö off loser.
we should fire the coach who recuooted him and evry coach who coacht him. i am so embarrasst by nafan cotteells i am going to toot fur georgia. GO GAWDS!!! suck em!!Love the effort of Cottrell. I know he came back from an injury. Excellent all-around player.
But, has he EVER broken a tackle???? EVER. Same thing with Skov. All you have to do is touch either of these runners and they fall like a house of cards.
Jeeze......
Skov was heralded as an interior bruiser, but never lived up to the hype. Cottrell stays in his lane, makes yards, and is slightly faster than Lynch and some other A backs. He doesn't punish defenders, but he makes yardage.I am not making a comparison of them as overall runners - obviously Skov was an interior bruiser and Cottrell is a quick A-Back. Okay, you just durrrrrred on my point. I was saying Cottrell >> Skov due to he is more effective in his position.I am not making a comparison of them as overall runners - obviously Skov was an interior bruiser and Cottrell is a quick A-Back. I can’t remember Cottrell ever making a tackler miss. Most of the yards he gets are from the scheme, not anything the player is doing particularly well as a runner. At least he is a pretty good blocker.
For the A backs, the system is set up for them to be untouched for five or six yards--more if blockers can get to the second level. Roddy was a pleasant exception, but they don't have to be punishing runners to be successful. It’s not just Nate, but all of our A backs always seem to be careening our of control with the ball. Watch how they more or less run an arc to the sideline with their inside pad down and never square to the field and don’t turn upfield like Roddy used to do. It always looks like they are about to come off their feet before they get to sideline. They get positive yardage, but not as much as they could.
Nice to have the opportunity to critique a 90 yards on 9 carries performance this morning after a win as somehow unsatisfactory. Ten yards a pop, AND AGAIN, IN A WINNING EFFORT, is not too shabby. And I think Cottrell was maybe third on the stat sheet. That’s a little harsh. Not many (if any) guys in the ACC have more burst. He gets more yards than a lot of guys would get with those schemes. But yeah, no shake/vision. He rarely even cuts let alone jukes. Which I’m not all that mad about. It’s more aggravating watching an AB dance around for a 1 yard gain when 3/4 yards were there to be had with simply hitting the hole with purpose than it is to watch an AB run into his blocker 40 yards downfield.
CPJ specifically mentioned this problem in the post-game.It’s not just Nate, but all of our A backs always seem to be careening our of control with the ball. 100% agree with you.I can’t remember Cottrell ever making a tackler miss. Most of the yards he gets are from the scheme, not anything the player is doing particularly well as a runner. At least he is a pretty good blocker.
It's worth criticism if he should've had 150 yards on 9 carriesNice to have the opportunity to critique a 90 yards on 9 carries performance this morning after a win as somehow unsatisfactory.
