It was kind of a weird play, hard to tell which way the block was going. The tackler (barely) got off the block and made a good shoestring tackle, IIRC. The play had a chance to go, but it was just one of those things. (Similarly, I think we might have had trouble on the opening kickoff if the runner hadn't slipped on the wet turf and fallen untouched.)

Oh, absolutely. I didn't say it shouldn't be discussed, just that it was nice to be looking at 90 yards (out of 450) and savoring a win. Cottrell didn't cost us the game, and in fact, may have helped keep some of our fumblers from costing us the game.

Cottrell and Lynch have about the same amount of carries this year, but Cottrell is averaging more yards per carry and will be here next year, so it's probably smart to get him more involved. Cottrell is averaging over 8 ypc in his career. I guess he could finish his runs better, but The OP always has a weekly nonsensical complaint and this is this week's.

Lynch also scored a TD in this game so it isn't like he's disappeared.

I'm just remembering all those long runs and receptions he had in 2016 and that they should get him the ball more often. I know he did have a long reception a couple games ago.
 
He didn't need to break a tackle on that first TD because he was so damn fast he blew past the angles of the defense. Like most super athletic white guys that frustrate fans because they aren't doing what the other players are, Nate needs to think less and react more. The juking and jiving is improvisational. It isn't something you 'think' about while you're running.

I heard CPJ say either on the Radio Show or his teleconference that Searcy and Lynch moved to the lead blocking side on those plays for some reason. He didn't call the plays to go to Cottrell, but the other A-Backs chose to block.

Part of the reason is that JeT used to hit lynch on the inside seam a whole bunch, but he's only gotten a couple since.

If it were tough yards to get, I'd go with Cottrell. He has speed and power. If it were shiftiness, I'd say Searcy. If I had to have one of them catch a pass, Lynch - although Searcy did a fine job Saturday

Yeah, since we huddle up every play, the A-backs can more or less just pick a side. They know the play that's called, so they know each side's responsibility. This has actually been going on at least since Orwin and Roddy were in the backfield. On the From the Flats podcast, Orwin talked about how Roddy would mess with him and take the blocking side A-back spot if he knew it was a called dive. That way he wouldn't have to sprint in the arc motion just to be a decoy.
