NC State Post Game Thread

I think people are just confused because every QB you have used as an example of how you can't coach passing has been an incredible college QB. Like multiple titles, Heismans, and even a pair of NFL MVPs between them incredible.

It's just a little odd. Those seem like examples you would use to give hope that Sims can develop, not as examples of coaching failures.

It’s a bold strategy. To use three specific examples that directly contradict your thesis. Not only that, but Baker “started as a walk on, improved statistically every year, won a Heisman, and is now starting in the NFL” Mayfield is probably the prototype example to argue against his point.

Our tight ends are FCS level bad. But yeah, let’s go ahead and put CGC on the hot seat.

I think the "we could have gotten those 3 back" is the stretch though. He had no reason to think there was any chance whatsoever that we'd make that FG. A lot of really awful things happened offensively after that, including our failure on that 4th down try, to make it reasonable to say "screw it, we are desperate" and send the kicker out there later to try to stay alive in what had become a öööö show of a game.

I understand you especially based on what we saw in the first few games, but at this point in the season can we not line up at the 17 or 18 yardline and kick with some confidence? I believe the decision today was less about kicking and more about his lack of confidence in the D holding up. If we didn’t get the possession to open the 2nd half I would feel better about the situation but getting it to 10 was important.

I hated watching this game, btw. There was zero flow. Between the refs, timeouts, injuries, and the extrapolous amount of bad tv commercials...kinda glad the season is coming to an end.

The officiating crew was pretty bad tonight. Total amateur-hour ööööshow

For those of you planning on attending Thursday night........wouldn't make my travel plans just yet
i was thinking the exact same thing. short turn around and looks like we barely had enough to play today.

Winston won a BCS...

What planet are you on
Winston is a good reference. Surround Sims with a bunch of 4 and 5 stars and he might win a Natty. Otherwise he's a guy with below average football decision-making skills.

Fair enough, yeah. I guess the important thing is we've got to stop putting ourselves in that position to begin with, choosing between a kicking unit and a OC who are both liable to do something more likely to produce a meme than points. And that's (hopefully) just for the rest of this year. I'd like to think next year our kicking situation won't be such a horror show and our OC.. I dunno. I don't know anything about what is likely or not w/r/t staff changes and I dislike calling for heads.

They were pretty complimentary of our defense. There are just a bunch on here that are upset that they called our offense for being simplistic; particularly the receiver routes and the receiver effort. They talked about receivers just stopping after they finished their route when Sims was scrambling rather than working to get open; it was hard to confirm it watching on TV because the screen shot was focusing on Sims. I need to add they were complimentary of Sanders after he went on his receiving tear in the second half and made some comment about him being the only receiver out there working tonight (or something to that effect). If you are a big Patenaude fan I can understand the butt hurt about the comments.
The problem is CDP is calling long developing plays....if you can't pass block very well then why is he calling three to four check / read pass plays? IDK.
