Do you often find yourself competing with rocks to see who is the densest?
UGA and Clemson passed by EVERYBODY. Let me say that again since I know you still haven't understood it. UGA and Clemson passed by EVERYBODY. They spent far far more money than anything Tech could possibly spend to get to where they are. It's the exact same reason people are saying you can't blame Collins much for the 45-0 loss last year or the other beatdowns we've taken at the hands of these teams. They were killing everyone they play. The fact that you want to somehow blame Paul Johnson for Clemson and UGA being able to dick slap everybody not in the top 5 shows how much of a moron you are.
I have repeatedly said the line under Sewak sucked. Somehow you have taken me saying that despite them sucking, they were still better than anything fielded so far under Collins (because they could at least beat the öööö-tier and compete with the mid-tier teams) to be some great defense of them. It's not. It's the equivalent of choosing between getting covered in piss vs getting covered in öööö.
I said absolutely nothing in this thread about Collin's recruiting. You are again going off on a tangent of dumbööööery that is not relevant to what was said.
Let me simplify this for you you don’t break your keyboard getting so upset defending Johnson and Sewak some more.
Clemson and UGA were not light years ahead of anyone until mid 2010’s until now. During that time, GT was able to compete with UGA at least. So what exactly happened? The $$$ didn’t really change all that much. If was a combination of UGA’s elite recruiting + Johnson beating out Sun Belt and MAC teams for LOS players + Kirby flipping UGA’s program.
If you can’t understand that recruiting (plus the Portal now) are the life blood of ALL programs, I don’t know what to tell you. So when Collins took over, he inherited a very thin OL group who were not recruited for the system trying to be implemented. Combine that with a bunch of recruiting classes ranked in the 50-75 range was a problem. You seem to be one of the select few who doesn’t realize how weak GT was from a talent standpoint when Collins took over in December of 2018. It’s been well documented by now.
So to answer your question, the reason why Clemson and UGA with 2 HC’s that GT fans tried to mock at one time have elevated their programs to an ocean sized gap to GT is simple. Recruiting. Nothing more than that. Had CBK gone from Alabama to UGA, instead of Alabama to GT, he would be labeled one of the “hot” names to be a future HC.
Stanford, Iowa, Wisconsin all have something in common. Do you know what that is? It’s something GT hasn’t had since 2008 (DL) and 2016 (OL). You win and lose in the trenches. So while those 3 schools have boring offenses, you can count on those 3 to be solid along both LOS.
Johnson never recruited well along the DL, and the OL recruiting, especially near the end was atrocious. So it doesn’t matter WHO the HC or OL coach is, when you don’t have adequate pieces. Is that in any way shape or form an excuse to lose to The Citadel or NIU? Hell no. That said…..
GT was already down near the bottom 4 of the ACC before Collins took over. The option was the only thing hiding that from being truly exposed. And Duke….Well, they sort of owned Johnson near the end. And what would you consider Duke? So I would say, they have competed OK with the low-mid teams (Duke, UVA, etc). They just haven’t had the option to bail them out the last 3 years.
