New OL Consultant Added to the Staff

Sewak put a better OL on the field than we've had the past 3 years, and yes we all thought Sewak sucked. This move to bring in Hevesy should confirm to everyone that the problem wasn't simply jimmies & joes.

I predict that if we win 6+ plus games this year, there will be two camps on Stingtalk. The 'Collins just needed time to flip the roster because the cupboard was bare' group; and the 'bringing in those new assistance coaches made a huge improvement' group.
What if we win 6 but don’t go bowling? Does he stay or go you think?

I honestly don't know. Do we lose to some non-P5 team? Do we get shut out again? Do we lose by 4+ touchdowns to anyone? Do we beat a ranked team? At 6 wins I think there are a lot of factors to be considered.

1- The OL would have consisted Quinney, Harrison Jump, Minihan, Mckeehan, and Connor Hansen maybe. Tell us who we are beating with that 5

2- We were 60:40 run pass ratio. Run would’ve been high if weren’t so ineffective run blocking.

3. It’s definitely their fault that 3-4 guys have been medical disqualified and that their were no available OL when they came aboard couple of days before ESD

1. What happen to Kenny Cooper? But to answer your question: South Florida, Citadel, Temple, Duke,, N,C State, probably Miami, and maybe 1-2 others.

Too unlikely to consider. Not sure the last time a six win power 5 didn't get an invite unless they had a postseason ban. A few 5-7 teams have gone bowling. 6 wins against this schedule, it would be virtually impossible not to get a bowl. Better question is what if we go bowling at 5-7. I think he might have to win the bowl game in that case.

1. You're leaving a few key guys off such as lee and Parker Braun, two of the best on the unit. That's like talking about the 2014 line but leaving of Shaq Mason.

2. We got chunks running, but red zone play calling was garbage.

3. I pointed out the injuries already, which contributed to the mess. Again supporting the fact that we had decent players, instead of guys like you complaining about not having anyone.

3.2 CGC decided not to continue recruiting the committed o line guys. His fault on that one.

Going to a bowl in Shreveport in the winter is or new high water mark. What a time to be alive.
The Independence Bowl is not an ACC affiliated game, so maybe learn a little about what you use for pointless sarcasm. It just displays your ignorance to everyone on the board.

We beat USF, but you can throw NIU on that pile, probably BC too. Losing to these schools is what has everyone pissed. We don't deny that the transition was going to be difficult, but there are schools on our schedules that we should never lose to regardless of circumstance. And if it happens, it should be a one off, not every freaking time. Beating teams like UNC, Miami, NC State, F$U during this same period shows that there is some semblance of talent/coaching. Losing to the others puts a microscope on the program and its course. Winning those games turns 3/3/3 into something closer to 6/5/6 and people are looking at this season differently.

1. Parker Braun was leaving regardless of coaching change. His dad confirm that on these boards numerous times.

2. Chunks or not, your assertion was incorrect

3.It’s the truth. Our talent level was lacking and declining. It was why we were 24-25 at the end on 2018 season. I’m sorry i live in a reality that some of you don’t want to acknowledge

Disagree on all these, but you do you.

Lol thanks for pointing out my ignorance regarding pointless bowls.

You disagree just because you want to believe your own narrative or what? Number 1 is absolutely correct. Number 2, sure we did have some bad red-zone play calling but we also had some good play calls that the team executed horribly and failed. That sort of leads to having to be creative with play calling and folks saying they are dumb or bad calls. Number 3 what further proof do you need that our talent level was declining, especially on the line? We had 2 OL committed for that first cycle, both were visited by coaches and had opportunity to sign even if they felt like the new staff did not want them. One went to Louisville and redshirted then played in 2 games in 2020 and did not see any action last year. The other went to App State and did not see any playing time for 3 years and transferred to Gardner-Webb for this season. That sound like talent coming in on the OL?

Kenny Cooper should’ve retired. He was never the same after his hip injury

USF won in 2018 and you expected us to win with a lesser talented team

Temple was a more talented then us. I know that is hard to accept. Don’t believe me? Look and see the NFL guys on that roster

Duke won 4 out the last 5 vs. the option. What makes you think that trend would’ve changed

Miami may have been a toss up

6 wins is a nightmare scenario for us fans.I hope stansberry is long gone before that if it happens.
Gaily was fired for six straight 7+ win seasons....like the AJC article and the big donor said -
win 8 or GTFO

Who’s fault was it that GT went from competitive to squarely behind the teams above? Dabo, Kelly and Kirby must know so much more about the “game’ that they were able to pass GT by almost overnight. GT went from being competitive with those programs to an ocean sized gap in talent. That all started under Johnson. So what happened?

I know….It has to be the state of Georgia, GA BOR (which had more GT alums), ACC (because of course they want to keep GT down), NCAA….Oh and of course, how could I forget UGA? They are so scared of the sleeping giant that is GT, that they are adding majors just to lure all those 5* players away from GT…….Did I cover all the fake excuses?

You have defended the OL under Sewak, which I pointed out lacked the talent needed the last few years under Johnson. That poor recruiting was inherited under Collins. Most of those OL’s were not players for the system GT attempted to run post the spread option offense. Do you agree or disagree with that statement?

I’m not defending the recruiting or lack thereof by Collins and Key to bring in an adequate OL starting by year 3. They came in day 1 talking about recruiting, and for 1.5 years on paper it looked like they were turning the corner. Not so much lately. All the noise went away after last season. This is a prove it year for Collins and Key as an OL coach. Is that clear enough for you?
Do you often find yourself competing with rocks to see who is the densest?

UGA and Clemson passed by EVERYBODY. Let me say that again since I know you still haven't understood it. UGA and Clemson passed by EVERYBODY. They spent far far more money than anything Tech could possibly spend to get to where they are. It's the exact same reason people are saying you can't blame Collins much for the 45-0 loss last year or the other beatdowns we've taken at the hands of these teams. They were killing everyone they play. The fact that you want to somehow blame Paul Johnson for Clemson and UGA being able to dick slap everybody not in the top 5 shows how much of a moron you are.

I have repeatedly said the line under Sewak sucked. Somehow you have taken me saying that despite them sucking, they were still better than anything fielded so far under Collins (because they could at least beat the öööö-tier and compete with the mid-tier teams) to be some great defense of them. It's not. It's the equivalent of choosing between getting covered in piss vs getting covered in öööö.

I said absolutely nothing in this thread about Collin's recruiting. You are again going off on a tangent of dumbööööery that is not relevant to what was said.

i'm not surprised that GOL still has some influence.
Key could be a nightmare if made a HC.
he still needs to start showing progress/results as OLC.
I love O'leary. But I'm kinda shocked at the notion O'Leary has much sway with anyone above Tstan. O'Leary was dead to Tech's "decision makers and influencers" after he left for ND.

So you want to go back to the spread option offense? While Wake Forest can run an uptempo RPO based offense with so called lesser talent, and be a top 5 offense? I don’t think going back to the spread option will fly with whatever is left of the high dollar alums. Plus, I doubt running the spread option would help GT in the eyes of the B1G.

The air raid seems like a better option to switch to if a change is made. Leach, etc have shown it can work at the highest level.
Just call it a pro-style offense and all of the morons will jump on the bandwagon. (I think any offense can work with the right staff but you better call it a pro-style offense)

Larry? Sewak put a better OL on the field that could run the TO. Are you implying he could also recruit and coach an OL to run a pro-style or RPO offense better than Key?

Me like logic. Some say maybe too much.
Well Key sets a pretty low bar......I wouldn't want to see the attempt but it's a possibility.

In fairness, I didn't realize Shreveport was out of the rotation, either. Looks like the lower tier ACC bowls are in Tampa (Gasparilla), Birmingham, and University Park, Texas (First Responder Bowl)
