New summer pro football league aims to offer paid alternative to college football

So, how is this different than the FXFL that folded after two seasons, or the MLFB that was announced by Wes Chandler last March and then cancelled their 2016 season?

This seems a little too familiar. Good idea but they'll be bankrupt in no time.

the NFL is going to have to see value in it for it to succeed. but they will when the sjw's get back on paying college players.

I didnt see that. Looked like it would be only college age kids, no pro rejects.

Exploiting the NFL rule requiring players to be out three years is a different angle. Why? Because every other league was [mostly] NFL rejects.
 
It will fail like the others unless it takes kids of all ages.

If it takes high school educated kids and offers them a way to make money outside of college, it could succeed. Up until the NCAA decides to let college players be paid, that is.

NCAA cant pay $50g average. But what I see as bigger than that for the players is the unlimited coaching time.

One would expect that that would be hard for NFL teams to ignore come draft day. A little success there and its a paradigm shift.
 
This is a guaranteed bust.

Sure, it's attractive to some players, but fans dont care about this garbage. $50k per player is $2-3 mil a year in salaries on the low end. Not a chance they get enough fans in 6-8 games to cover that plus all other overhead costs. Not many people are going to show up to watch these unaffiliated, no-name teams. This is minor league baseball without the financial backing of the pro team covering all of the expenses (losses).

Maybe they are just crossing their fingers that NFL teams start cutting them checks to become their designated developmental league before they run out of money in 2 years.
 
One way a development league could have success without the support of the NFL is by getting agencies to financially back the league in exchange for commissions from players who do make into the NFL.

An 18 year would probably be willing to accept $50k/yr for the next 4 years with an agreement to pay commissions to an agency if they get drafted or picked up by the NFL.

The orientation is it's hard for me to see an 18 year old picking 50k a year for four years playing in front of likely small crowds (both in the stadium and on TV) over going to college for four years.

50k a year just isn't enough to make this work, in my opinion.
