Next head coach

Ken Niumatalolo might be looking for a job soon. May be worth throwing him a bone.
Crap. I forgot we can only interview people who have worked here before even though they hadn’t worked here before at the time they previously worked here.

this might be a bit far fetched, but what about getting Charles Kelly as HC? He is on the coaching staff over at Alabama right now, as associate DC and safeties coach. The main issue is that he has never been in a head coach position, but I like him better than some of the other names that have been offered up.

God no

I'm not sure the rule changes are as big of deal as they're made out to be. Maybe i've missed some important data point, but it seems like our changes in personnel (OL & QB) were faaar more impactful. Considering how successful other 3/o teams have been since then, I don't think they actually matter.

The Orwin talk was way before the rule changes. I think you really need the big abacks to win consistently with the option in the P5. We’ll never know though.

I agree that the qb change was a much bigger impact. TM was the worst QB Johnson had. And he was able to overcome a 100th ranked defense to make a bowl in year 2.

How about Gary Patterson? He built a program at TCU before, he could build something similar here.
(admittedly, I don’t know what happened with him to leave TCU like he did, but he’s doing the coach rehab year at Texas, I think he’ll be ready to come back next year). The similarities between TCU and GT are multiple, from a football and program perspective it makes sense to me.

He'd be a great get, but I don't think we can afford him. He was paid rather well at TCU iirc.

When i coached fifty yrs ago it was not so complicated......everybody but Lincoln Co ran a five man front so everybody knew who to block.....U set up in a 52 and reacted....now there are so many coverages I can see even a OC having a tuff time.....HC calling offensive plays has bad outcome in my opinion
