Observations and Game Discussion

Oline leaves a lot to be desired, but I want to see what the other 2 QBs can do. Sims isn’t the answer. 3 years as a starter and no one can point to where he has progressed. Sims is holding the offense back. Now are the others better, that I don’t know but I sure would like to see for myself.

We only got stuffed once. Hall's run where he hit the pylon but then they reviewed and ruled him down on the 1 was on 2nd down. So we did the QB sneak on 3rd which IMO should have moved the ball to basically the 1 inch line but they re-spotted it just inside the 1 again. I would have gone for it on 4th down but I would have kept Sims under center, ran the sneak again and told him to stretch the ball over the top. He's 6'4" and athletic. All he had to do was break the plane with the ball. I understand not doing that on the 3rd down sneak for risk of fumbling, but when you do on 4th, you're either going to score or turn it over anyway.
Exactly. Tell him "go get the ööööing TD"

I saw an interview once with Charles Barkley. He said he was struggling working with an Auburn assistant coach when he was at Auburn on blocking out, getting position, and getting the rebound. He said he was frustrated and went to head coach Sonny Smith for advice to which Smith said "just go get the ööööing ball" which was some of the best advice you could have given Barkley because he then took the attitude of if the ball came off the rim, it belonged to him and he went and got it.

Same for Nesbitt. He pretty much played like those 1-2 yards on 4th down were his damn yards and he took them. We should be drilling the same thing in Sim's head when it comes to QB sneaks. My ööööing yards or it be Hall's ööööing yards, but they are ours.

The backup QB. The best QB on the team since Godsey left.

@JJacket Nothing exemplified what you said about Nesbitt more than the “gimme dat” play. They took his ball and he went and got that MFer right back. Got a 1st down out of it, too. Give me a team full of Nesbitt and I’d never lose. He could play OL, DL, LB, CB, WR, RB or QB. I’m sure he’d kick the damn ball if he needed to.

No way he’d punt or kick FGs though. Kickoff would be ok, those other things not so much.

Let's not fool ourselves. Pitt had many opportunities to win this game. There were 2 INTs that they just dropped. One being a clear pick 6. It was one game. Let's see how we do in the next 3 games. If we have a 3-0 or 2-1 record, with these 3, I would call it a success. I do like that we found we our running game. I hope that continues.
yep, another small bumble that pitt made was a OL actually caught a blocked pass for a 5 yd loss. That's the type of thing we do.Put them in hole then.
I hope this isn't our unc '21 repeat game that leads to nothing.

The only downside is Sims gets hurt EVERY yr.He's got to pick his efforts. as he may not have anybody else.

I would bring in the Phommachanh kid and have him run it in. I am thinking that the coaches told Sims to stay in the game and it made him regress as a runner, but he has had lots of moments where if you stuck his head in there he'd get an easy first down. Instead he jukes and waggles and loses two yards. Anyway, I would never run Sims in goal line.

Also there are times we should be putting the QB under center and the red zone is one of them.
One reason the 49ers kept Mason is that he jukes once then drives forward. If this was coached there would be more yards gained, less fumbles and less injuries. Great point.

That's a big concern as I don't think we have anybody near ready. Then again, maybe he got baby'd every time he had a boo boo?

If you can rush for 3.5 yards every time you touch the ball, you'd win every game you ever play.

Actually even noticed this in the 49ers game last night. WR screen to D. Samuel, he makes 1 cut and then directly up the field, 29yd gain. Same play like 4 plays later, this time to B. Aiyuk, makes one cut, and waits to make another, dances, finally goes forward, 6yd gain. Plays were blocked similarly, but Samuel just GOES and you can see the difference. Then again Deebo is kinda built like Nesbitt, so....

I’ll bet Pitt ends this season with a winning record. That is something none of the FBS teams Collins beat were able to do.

Definitely need to get one or two other guys some snaps.
