official 2009/ 2010 recruiting thread

Why can't you just keep the thread going with a "slight delay"? Give them enough time to break their exclusive, then share some of the info with us...

Why dont you just join rivals? I had a scout account but the rivals guys are posting way more info/articles than scout now so if you pick one, go with rivals. Its only $100/yr.

Exactly..

You dont have to shut the thread down. Just wait until the news has broke and give it some time.

Like if Jacketsonline breaks news that Ayers has decided to visit today (6/17), and we broke that news on Saturday (6/13)....wait until today to post that he is visiting.

All the quotes and other stuff needs to be left off the board. People pay for this stuff, there is a reason it's called "premium info".

You can sign up and pay $8.33 per month and get all the inside info you want here..

or he can keep posting and then the pay services will realize that 8.33 a month is a joke and will offer "premium" content (hahahahahaha) for a reasonable price, given it is mostly innuendo and 'heard for a guy that knows a guy'
whatever, you internet "information" providers are all middle men. you have no future.

My info is "heard from a guy who knows a guy" ??

:laugher:

Well if you want to be like that, then we can just shut down the whole thread....and you will have NO info coming your way.

I was just trying to be nice about it. You are the one being cheap.

GTLand, thanks for the tidbits. As an out of towner, I really appreciate the information.

Thanks for the information. I don't post on this site, but I do enjoy the reading the recruiting information.

The thread is a good idea and GT fans should know about who is coming in and what kind of recruits the staff are going after..

But there is a point where a line is crossed.

I really like this site, so lets keep the thread going. But lets hold off on some of the Jacketsonline premium stuff..

Thanks,

Matt Holt

If somebody pays for the info they should be able to share it with anyone they want IMO. don't see why you would limit gteric on what he can post here and don't see how you have any authority to either. nonetheless, i appreciate all the info that you share eric.

if they give it away, then i think there is NOTHING that the pay site can do. now if someone subscribes and then offers the info for a lesser fee, then that wouldnt be right

but if i buy a big bag of peanuts then i can give them to whomever i want

well, since the coaches are not allowed to discuss recruits, in fact YES" or from the recruit, which is not necessarily the best source either as we have found out over the years

I was just trying to be nice about it. You are the one being cheap.

and i'm not being "cheap". i just dont see the value in paying about $100 to know something a few hours or at best a few days ahead of the general public about 18 year old kids deciding where they will go to school and play sports. the fact that you have to so rigorously defend your "property" shows that i might be correct. if you had plenty of interest, then some posts with "insider" info would only serve as advertising for the service. as it is, there are so few nuggets there, that you have to guard those few like a Catholic Inquisition to make sure the service isnt totally worthless

+1. rivals is suffering financially and gtland is making it painfully obvious.

Anything posted in a rivals article or on a message board is the copyrighted property of rivals or scout which is not to be shared elsewhere. So even if you paid for it, its not yours to share somewhere else. I know that its hard to prove and enforce but it does go against copyright laws. GTLand allowing info to be posted even days later is still doing you guys a heck of a favor.

Before anyone asks, I have no affiliation with either site. I'm a subscriber to rivals and I think its worth $8.33/mth for the great content I'm getting. Thats just my opinion though.

He might not be able to copy and paste articles, but he can definitely post the information. its in the papers the next day or two anyway, so are they violating copyrights too?

AJC gets their recruiting info from Rivals/Scout.

GTLand has a point. Rivals and Scout provide a service. They should be compensated for the info they provide. Someone posting Rivals/Scout info here in real time is just like the guy who lets his neighbors steal cable. I think GTLand allowing "premium info" to be posted here a few days later is fair.

If you want the info in real time cough up the $8 a month.

really???
i didnt know that you could copyright the direct quotes from people that say them. see, THEY (the people making the statement) own the material if anyone does.

Rivals does NOT own the words of any recruit. they only own their own work product, any article that they write, but not the words of some third party, like the high school coach and such

those direct quotes CANNOT be copyrighted by anyone except the person that says them, if at all

since these sites are generally a collection of other peoples opinion, not their own opinion the application of copyright law seems not appropriate.

The fact that Ryan Ayers is visiting Tech today is not copywritable "content" but information. The only way to protect information is with a confidentiality clause and in the absence of one, anyone is free to disseminate whatever they glean from the site.

Not trying to be a jerk but it is not appropriate to censor someone who is passing along information that he/she paid for. Maybe that's why he is paying for it - so he can enjoy enlightening us.

GT23eric is fully within his rights to do that if he chooses to and JacketsOnline has no recourse if he does.
