official 2009/ 2010 recruiting thread

Hmmm. Thinking.

That's a tough one. If I knew then, what I know now, I might have come a LOT closer to going to a school like Ole Miss.

Some of you out there know what I am saying.

Then, if I've also got a big ego, with aspirations of getting to the league and playing on Sundays, it'd almost be, well....I'll just leave it at that.

I know for a fact he has non commitable offers from USC and UT.

Miami fans say he also has a non commitable offer from them as of now.

WTF is with non-commitable offers anyway? If the B-list kid can't commit, then it's no different to wait until your A-list runs out and then make the kid an offer, except that you want to string him along and keep your options open.

It's basically the same as a recruit commiting to a coach, then looking around more, but in reverse.

You have to wonder what goes throught some of these kid's heads sometimes.

Every hanger-on jock sniffer in their home town has to be telling them that they're the "next coming" and apparently quite a few of them grow to believe it.

A good friend of mine tells an interesting story. He was an Alabama private school hundred meter state champion and a star RB some years back. His friends and local back-slappers had built him up into a true "legend in his own mind". so when he got a Jr.-Sr. year invite to go to an Auburn summer camp, he rolled in full of confidence and a little cocky as well.

In his first series of drlls at RB, he found himself in a group with three other young guys, Joe Cribbs, William Andrews and James Brooks. (Note: all of these guys had pretty decent NFL careers). As he lined up behnd Cribbs and Brooks to take a hand-off and make a cut, the fact that they were so fast that he couldn't even see either of them make their cut but that somehow they still somehow ended over there where they were supposed to be underscored his "reality check" quite dramatically. He was NOT going to be a star Auburn RB and in fact, he really didn't belong on the field.

He refers to this as his "ultimate personal moment of humility" and that revelation not only steered him away from football and into the fitness industry where he had exceptional success, but also taught him a lesson about how to judge what others are telling you about yourself.

How many youngsters learn this lesson early enough?

That's like lining up next to Calvin Johnson then concluding that you suck as a receiver.

Not necessarily.

Point taken but nonetheless that's a pretty elite club and not being a member doesn't exactly equate to not belonging on the field.

Gabe Henderson, a QB from Southeast Raleigh, seems ready to commit next weekend. It seems he really wants an offer from us and says he will find out if one is forthcoming on Monday.

He is 6', 180. Led his team to conference title and 4A third round last year. Passed for 2,400 yards, rushed for 660. 29 passing TD's, 11 rushing TD's, only 8 interceptions. Will play for a very talented team this year with great linebackers.

Those of you close to our recruiting, will we offer? If we don't I think he will head to NC State or East Carolina.

I'm no expert, but the only way I see it happening is if Ryan White commits to someone else over the weekend. I don't see us taking 2 QB's in this year's class considering how small it's going to be. That said, the guy has basically no other real offers, so he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Can he gain weight? I don't think anyone under 200 lb can handle the stuff our QBs will have to go through.

I would be surprised if Henderson was offered. 6' is getting generous.

Great arm, average legs, stocky guy.

Green is close to a decision..

Ole Miss
GT
FSU

Those are the finalists.

So best I can tell we have 3 scholie's left with with our top 4 wants being (in no particular order):

S. Green
A. Williams
T. Cornelious
R. White

What happens if all 4 of these guys want to verbal to us this summer? Would we hold one offer until attrition opens up one more spot, or would we accept the verbal commitment understanding that we would likely lose someone before signing day (such as Dwyer going pro)?
