official 2009/ 2010 recruiting thread

Thanks guys.

Days seems like a good prospect on the surface...certainly a nice build and athleticism for out offense. Any idea why we haven't offered, given the uncertainty about Ryan White.

Could be academically related. Also I don't think they have identified what position to offer him. Could easily play QB WR or LB.

Anything new happening on the recruiting front? Any possible new commits anytime soon?

I understand the logic behind questioning why we want Skole, but I could see similar comments about Cooper Taylor being made when he was recruited. The staff has done a great job so far, so hopefully they see something the oft-wrong recruiting services do not.

Not criticizing him, just would like to see more depth/talent at other positions. Like LB and OL.

I understand and do not disagree. I guess I just think that sometimes people (not necessarily you) get carried away with the recruiting questions. I think Skole would be the first real example of GT taking someone not on their A-list. However, they may like him more than others considering it is still pretty early and he has an offer. I do see your point, though.

Taking Skole now is like taking the "best player available" in the NFL Draft. We'd get great value but not at a position of need. The guy looks like a stud DB.

That works in the NFL, because if the guy is a stud at one position but can't really play another position well, you can still trade him and get value.

In college, if he can't play anything besides DB well and we are stocked at DB, then we have lost value because we can't trade him.

Not saying I think we shouldn't go after him, because things happen, people get hurt, he could play another position well...just commenting on the comparison to the NFL draft.
