Official Early Signing Day Fax Thread

So, it looks like among the commits the outgoing staff got, we only lost two and one was possibly due to academics. Two more are going to wait. Not bad.

I’m surprised by this. I’m sure Collins has his own ideas about the type of players he wants and I’m sure there are commitments that don’t fit that. I know we would want to honor all the commitments, but surely you could envision a conversation along the lines of “recruit, we are honoring your commitment with a football scholarship if you still want to come to GT. However, in the new scheme you are going to struggle for playing time, though you will certainly be afforded every opportunity to earn it.” Maybe that didn’t happen, which is fine, and Collins simply kept recruiting those guys from a brand/culture perspective with the intent to sort out the where they fit later.

We actually had a TE degree (Textile Engineering) that was considered by some to be unfit for GT (too vocational). Text became a more appropriate and harder MSE.

Got merged in to MSE cause after 08 GA ended the "if the degree isn't in your state come here for in-state tuition" thingy.

Or maybe players are not quite as scheme-specific as we couch-potatoes like to think.

Or maybe Tech is the best school on a lot of these kids' offer sheets already and the other schools don't run the 3O either. I've never heard of any kid saying oh no they don't run the triple option, I will not go there. It's usually the other way around.

My unpopular opinion was to release them all and go out and start shaking the bushes for West Coast or Texas JUCOs, & Grad Transfers, and start the rebuild sooner rather than later for guys that fit Coach G's specs rather than trying to play this game "with honor" where we are the only school handicapping ourselves and playing it that way

Every other school that gets a new HC before NSD, they don't force someone else's recruits onto him

It does no one any good to bring in a 5-11 Yates that looks 5-10 BTW, when we're looking for QBs like Justin Fields that are 6-3 220+ and run just as well as Yates

You can play to win and still be ethical, handicapping our new HC isn't being more ethical than the rest, it's yet another example of GT being too worried about its image, rather than maximizing the rule book to our our advantage

Everyone else maximizes the rule book to their advantage, one would think that a school that is constantly bragging about how much smarter we are would figure out a way to do the same

Yates is 6'1''. You clearly haven't watched this kid play. In the highest classification in the state against an opponent ranked in the top 10 nationally he played lights out. He's a team player unlike Justin Fields who is more like the "Me" generation of entitlement. We will find some contributors in this class and CC will start putting together his own classes from scratch next year. Yates will push for playing time as a true frosh.
