Official Early Signing Day Fax Thread

a) Even if you were the kind of person that could pull scholly's from the kids committed prior to your arrival (Satterfield), you are running a very real risk of burning bridges with their HS coach and blowing up your pipeline to that school / district / family / friend group.
b) The early signing period and the transition worked great. Kids that wanted to switch could switch, kids that wanted to stay could get a feel for the new head coach, and CGC could pull a few kids he liked while he was recruiting at Temple.
c) Throwing out these recruits would tie a hand behind your back as most kids are signed in the early period and down to a short list for February. Hell, half of next year's class is already leaning toward their favorite school. You are talking about flipping kids last minute in order to fill your roster - that's not worth talking about.

Conclusion: you don't have to understand recruiting to post on a message board.

Maybe Collins needs to adjust his system to fit the players he has not the players people wish he had. Why on earth would you tell a recruit "you are going to struggle for playing time"? Right now this team loaded with 5* recruits is just hype; maybe it will happen and maybe not. There are some good players in this class and some if not most of them will end up being starters regardless of what GT is able to recruit in the coming years.

Here's to hoping that bravejason and NTNPBGCollins stay as far away from our recruits as possible.

Color me confused. Here I was thinking CPJ couldn’t recruit and the players he had committed were no good for our new NFL style offense. Lord knows where I got that impression from. Some Internet forum somewhere I guess.

Or maybe players are not quite as scheme-specific as we couch-potatoes like to think.

I agree, even if my post suggested otherwise.

I’ve only the introductory press conference to go off of and maybe I got the wrong impression but my impression is that that CGC is wanting to recruit different types of players. For example, I don’t think he’d recruit Justin Thomas with the idea of letting him try out for QB (as a DB, sure, but that’s where ‘Bama wanted him too).

My only worry is that the emphasis he places on "length." I'm not sure that's a mold that highlights our best talent.

Ur mom sez length is my best talent.

With an athlete like JT5, the GT's of the world will want to give him a chance to get on the field. If he's better than our other QB's, we'll take him as QB. That's going to be the same under CGC as it was under CPJ. The only reason it's not that way at Bama or UGA or wherever is because they generally get more "talented" (a word I am loathe to use) recruits, and hence can say with greater certainty that (for example) JT5 wasn't going to outperform the other QB's on Bama's roster. That can't be said at GT. (Yet.)

JT5 was a great QB for the option, but he wouldn’t get a look in a lot of offenses. Joe was the best all around qb I’ve seen at Tech, but barely made the cut in the nfl because of the style of offense Tampa ran.

JT5 had terrible throwing mechanics. He would not have beaten out Suggs in a Gailey offense. Bilbo would have been a legend in the 3o.

Where CGC can make hay is finding a guy like Fluttie for GT. A guy that the factories pass on because of measurables.

Bullshit. Suggs sucked.

Suggs would have been turned into pink mist on the 1st series trying to pass behind the blocking scheme JT did.
