Official First Garbage Football / Season Kickoff Thread

ND will just **** around and do absolutely nothing and kick the game winner. lame. College OT rules suck

Coach Kelly: “I’m a big fan of execution and maybe our whole team needs to be executed after tonight.”

Does that get you canceled these days? Nice but he can't be the first to make that joke.

Notre Dame TE’s look like a different planet species compared to our little guys

Hard to argue with FSU having their chance first and missing it.
Sure, FSU sucks, but the OT rules still suck. ND did nothing to earn the win in OT except kick a field goal, and it wasn't even a fair field goal competition. The FSU kicker had way more pressure than the ND kicker. The FSU kicker could lose the game but the ND kicker couldn't.

Win in regulation and it doesn't matter

OK you can't complain about overtime rules because teams should just win in regulation. Let's just make overtime a coin flip then
The rules are far better than NFL. How do you improve upon each team having an opportunity to score points and you keep going if the point scored are equal? FSU missed a kick. ND made theirs. Seems like a pretty good system with little room for improvement.

Re: Seminole Indians and woke comments

This is my reminder that the Seminole tribe (Florida) =/= Seminole nation (Oklahoma) and both are distinct from the mikosukee (sp?) who are the ones you see in the everglades now. Seminole is derived from a Spanish name for runaway and they really didn't form as a distinct people group until the late 1700s and even then they still were a loose affiliation of various other native tribes and runaway slaves. They spoke different (but admittedly similar) languages and never formed into a coherent single identity akin to other peoples that pre-dated European settlement of the Americas. All that to say that their development into "the Seminole people" is very much a product of the development of the United States as a country and they've developed their "culture" entirely post colonization. Heck, you could argue that they are colonizers themselves given how they settled in Florida in a similar story to how displaced scotch-irish settled the Carolinas and Georgia. Further, the Oklahoma band has existed longer on reservations than they ever did in Florida.

Just be wary when reflecting on Seminole sentiment as if it's reflective of broader Native American sentiment.

Start out of easy field goal range (say the 35). Move closer in successive OT periods if game length is a concern
