Official Gasparilla Bowl/AI Masterpieces Thread

Anybody got insight on that Oklahoma State game? Very anomalous. Otherwise, I see nothing to fear here
Okie St had 4 turnovers and gave up 592 yards of offense. They were down 24-0 at the half and then gave up a 92 yd TD run in the 3rd quarter. I think they probably weren't prepared, underestimated UCF, and gave up early.

From a fans standpoint, does it really matter which level bowl we go to? I guess it might effect the experience for the players but all the talk about tier 1 and tier 2 is kind of pointless to me. If I understand correctly the payouts are evenly split between all teams so we get same amount of money regardless.

I just want an interesting opponent and a drivable location. I like Tampa vs ucf better than Rutgers in New York or playing Troy. I was really hoping the gator vs Auburn would work out but I'm ok with Tampa

UCF came disguised as Bowling Green. Caught the Okies completely off guard.

I took a quick look at their stats this season - the usual ones. The one thing that did kind of jump off the page was their 3rd down conversion defense in the last qtr of the season. Opponents had 43 3rd downs, UCF only allowed 10 first downs. If you limit the national results to the same time frame, that's good enough for 3rd best in the country - 12 spots better than Michigan. Not sure what to make of that.

Was also the game immediately after their win over OU wasn't it?

How the heck do you only face 43 thirds downs

Three of their losses this season were in games with the back-up QB, McClain, starting for the injured Plumlee. They were 5-3 with Plumlee playing, although the back-up's stats look pretty good.

#8 ranked offense in country. Also have pass rushers on D and a 1,300 yard RB. This is a good team.

Boise's not bad, even though they fired their coach too, right before getting a bowl bid.
Not overwhelmed by them beating a bad Cincy team and sending Holgorsen packing with UH. Though they did push OU pretty hard in their two-point loss, which I recall with great alacrity. Since we had the Sooners to cover that day.

This is the type of matchup that we could feel confident of a W in the past. Hope that’s returning….
