Official GT Head Coach News Thread

Over reaching here. The entire football world? We could have very easily lost to Pitt and we beat UNC last year. I’m not turning the keys over to part of the problem.

You get my point, even if I used hyperbole. No one is wanting Key just because he's a Tech man. So was Whiz.

The improvement Geoff promised for 3 years finally started under Key, despite an injury-driven revolving door at QB. Part of the appeal is the saved $$$ we could use to get a better OC.

It really sucks having all these different HC search news threads, thanks to everyone wanting to start a new thread for some reason.

Can't we have one official thread pinned to the top of the board for this entire conversation, and mods can close/merge new threads into the one thread? Not to be a dick but isn't that the purpose of having mods on a lightly-modded board?

Thank you mods.

This HC search process is either extremely professional, thorough, and discreet.... or it's extremely haphazard, unorganized, and we're all ööööed. There is no chance it's in between.

Does that mean Chadwell in still in play?

Dell would be huge for recruiting South Georgia. Mutt fans recognize him as an outstanding recruiter.

What other names are being mentioned?

Here are some of the folks he has on staff now and some he had in the past...

His current OC, Jim Svoboda is 62 also, but seems to be pretty good and has a ton of coaching experience, including some HC experience, and P5 OC experience at UCLA from 04-06 (had a 10-2 season in 05). Currently has Tulane at #26 in scoring offense this year.

Alex Atkins - was his OL coach at GSU, currently FSU's OC

Chad Lunsford - was his TE coach at GSU, stayed at GSU and promoted to special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator when Fritz left, eventually took over as HC at GSU for 4.5 years (10-3 season in 2018). Spent some time at Auburn as director of scouting. Currently at FAU as TE/special teams coach.

Dell McGee - was his RB coach at GSU, currently RB coach at UGAg.

Kevin Peoples - was his DL coach at GSU and Tulane, hired away by Indiana and now Missouri. He has had great DL's everywhere he's gone and put a bunch of guys into the NFL. His 2020 DL at Indiana led the B1G in sacks for the first time ever.

If they're still interviewing new people at this point then Brent Key is not getting the job.
I wouldn't make that jump. Unless you sit down with a holy hell candidate, you need to interview anyone and everyone that is interested in the job.

Otherwise, how do you know for certain Key is your 5 to 10 year man?

Batt should have been doing that weeks ago. Every day that passes now brings us closer to early signing and further behind in transfer portal recruiting.

Yeah, if they haven't told Key he is out, he isn't out. Obviously, he should be exploring other opportunities while he waits, of course.
