If we can't have Chadwell, Fritz is the next best choice IMHO. Should have hired Fritz in 2018 after CPJ retired.

No way.

I was full force behind Paul Johnson because my UGA friends said they were actually as scared of him as they were O’Leary. PJ was a proven P5 winner at Navy.

This guy is way worse than Brent Key. Absolutely terrible hire. I will enjoy giving GTAA that are soliciting me for donations an earful over the next two years.

Hint: Brent Key played not only FBS. Brent Key played P5. Brent Key coached P5.

Fritz did ZERO of that at aged 63. Why?!?!

Batt is a moron.

Not sure where a coach played football matters (one example, Nick Saban played at Kent State). Not even sure if it matters that they played at all (one example, George O'Leary).

Brent Key may end up being as bad a thing to happen to GT athletics as Geoff Collins at this rate.

"Georgia Tech is closing in on its next head football coach and all indications point to Tulane coach Willie Fritz, a person familiar with the situation told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday. A deal was not in place as of Sunday night and could take a few days to complete."

This would be disappointing to me. I want Coach Key to get the job. To me, Key did a great job. I also think it is questionable at best to hire a coach from a non-power five school in his mid-60s to do a rebuilding job at a power five school. Even if he succeeds in three years, it will be time for him to retire, or at least start getting social security. How can this be our best option? Of course, I hope whomever we get for a coach is successful.

Brent Key did successful CPR on a program that was absolutely dead. He beat 2 nationally ranked programs his predecessor never did, same roster with a 3rd string QB. He played the probable 2023 NC tightly into the mid 3rd quarter of an away game until his depth ran out and fatigue took over.
It was an obvious choice. Brent Key.
I’m disappointed but always in. Go Jackets. I’ll support Fritz or whom ever.

I respect your thoughts. It seems a lot of these names seem to have a history together. Not a bad thing if the head coach sees the best of the colleagues to build a staff.

You're killin' me, Ken. I was going to be happy and excited with either Key or Chadwell. I actually wouldn't have minded BOB. Willie Fritz is really out of left field and not in a good way. I'm going to find it tough to get excited about him.

Of course I'll get on board and look forward to the season but this is kind of a gut punch right during a time when I had the most optimism about Tech football in four or five years.

This sounds like an AD and Pres who have made their decision but still need to run it by some others as courtesy interviews.

Happens all the time when a CEO makes a decision on a hire but needs board members to interview. The board is not going to overrule the CEO unless there’s a major issue, but things aren’t official until they give their thumbs up.

I think a 4-3 record down the stretch with wins against the 3 teams ahead of us in the Coastal with this rag tag bunch was enough body of evidence to offer Key after the surprising effort against the dwags. JMO.
It’s not. The only reason anyone is even talking about permanently promoting a position coach to HFC is the Tech Man bullshit. If you want to talk about an uninspiring hire, it’s that move.

Not even close.

The entire football world is recognizing Key right now for a pair of Top-25 road wins and a 4/4 record after inheriting Geoff's mess mid-season. And with no HC experience and a 3rd string QB. I wouldn't give two shakes of he was a UGA grad in that situation.

The "Tech Man" thing only adds to the point that he wants to be here and we can probably save $$$ to spend on support staff.
