Official postgame: We WON!!!!

FWIW, after tackling a few students out of 100s, the security did redeploy to the goal posts to make their final stand.

I don’t think the students had any interest.

Keeping the band from playing just because there are fans on the field is proof our AA hates us.
I was in the band, and I somewhat agree, but it becomes a crowd control issue. If they had played the Horse (or anything else) with everyone on the field, it raises the risk of crowd crush and tramplings. I think they did the same thing in 2011 after the Clemson game, no Horse.

There have been decades of field stormings at GT with the band playing during them. I've played at several of them. The only injuries I've ever heard of have been from jumping down from the railings to the field or from the goalpost coming down on someone. In short, the idea that the band playing has any effect whatsoever on crowd safety is ludicrous. It's simply a punishment for the fans for rushing the field, no more, no less.

The students had left the field when the band decided not to play the Horse.

Why would playing a song raise the risk of crowd crush and trampling? That seems like a pile of horseshit.

I am going to look for you after our next home win and trample your ass during the Horse. Hell, I might pre-trample you during Budweiser. Keep your head on a swivel and listen for wheezing. It is a long way from the UN and I will be winded.

Here's the rub, the crowd was GONE and the band was still in their seats. They could have done it then - albeit later than usual, but still.

A song that marching bands played in the 70’s. It has no magical powers.
It has the power to fling anyone within earshot to any point within a 75 yard radius of their original position. You never know where you'll end up when it's over.

Thanks GT76. And we were worried this would incite some form of dancing nerd riot on the field? I think I got it.

We played The Horse about two times per football game every game and @ pep rallys when I was in band in highschool. Four years, by memory. We were not allowed to use music. If you didn't have it memorized and checked off by your section leader, you didn't March. I think I could probably still play my part if I had to.

I’m gonna trample you during the national anthem.

Went memorized all our music in HS as well. I played in military bands for 21 years and memorized all the things we played while marching.

Well the Horse, when executed correctly, involves everyone in earshot to sprint at the same time, so that would be one way to get trampled haha.

That's just what the director told us from my time there. And yes, the band could have probably played it after the field was clear, but I think the AA is just trying to get everyone out at that point. I stayed after the silent Horse this Saturday and watched some of the ACCN stuff, and it was like probably 10 minutes after the field was clear that a Trooper came through and asked us to leave the stands. So I guess the overall policy is to get everyone out pretty quickly after the game is over.
