Ole Miss opens -21.5

How exactly do you believe this is a “coin toss” game against a Top 25 team on the road who just played another Top 25 team?

GT is improved on offense, but outside of 1 quarter against Louisville it’s hard to tell just how much yet. Playing an FCS school was more of a tune-up for the real schedule. GT has upgraded at QB, depth at WR, but the OL is still a concern. WR blocking is also a real concern. There were too many blown up plays even against South Carolina State.

On D, the DL has struggled to get significant push in both games. The LB’s are a work in progress, while the secondary is the strength of the D.

If GT can’t stop the run Saturday, then it will have to be a track meet type game in order to have a chance to win. Ole Miss has some really good O personnel, but like GT, the D is the weakness of that team.

Key is 5-5 as GT HC. That’s not bad considering the mess he took over mid season last year. It’s going to take some time to build the roster and make the adjustments to the staff. Not sure what you expected in year 1, but it generally takes some time to get the program turned around. Especially since GT can’t just use the portal like other schools.

You're kinda all over the map here. First, you call a three-TD spread a coin toss game. Then, you get standards and expectations mixed up. Having seen two games so far, I think you're getting ahead of yourself with respect to results expectations and I think most of the people on here talking like Tech is going to win a nine-touchdown shootout is misguided. None of that means anyone is accepting mediocrity.

The spread moves guys, let me go unload my bankroll it'll be a FG by morning. Do we want to play this game of week 1 rankings correlates to end of year position? Because we all know that doesn't happen so quit using it as an argument.

You must not read any other posts, I already said any coach can come in here and win 5. Minus 1 or 2 teams, the ACC is a weak pile for the last several years and this year is no different.

My point is the same, if you're not expecting us to win more, you are no different than the hill who I'm guessing you referenced with the "can't use the portal" remark. They have accepted average in football, sold it to you, and you are actively drinking the kool-aid.

Everyone knows it takes time to build a program under the old model. This isn't the old model fellas. If a NFL team has players or coaches who don't perform, they cut them or trade them for ones who do. Hell the college factories have been doing that for years by oversigning. I've said it plenty before, so many of you guys are stuck in this old world that no longer exists since NIL. The longer Ma Tech takes to figure that out, the further behind we're going, and unfortunately the other schools aren't gonna grade us on a curve.

So yes, results are due this season. It doesn't have to be the great "expectation", but it does need to be better than what any average joe with a standard stocked roster can deliver, and that in my mind is sure more than .500 this year.

Not disagreeing with you at all as it relates to the game now vs 3-5 years ago vs what’s coming in 3 years (CFB pay for play no scholarships).

GT is and will always be its own worst enemy. GT needs to use the Portal more to load up on potential impact players. Problem is 3 fold. GT academics, NIL and if a factory comes calling. Look at DL Solomon Byrd for USC. Impact player who was a GT transfer portal commit at one time. USC offered and he switched in the blink of an eye.

The NFL model on hiring and firing is what UF is about to go through. If things don’t progress under Napier as the season goes on, the recruiting ranking won’t matter. UF will move on again to ANOTHER HC and staff (3 in 4 years) and hit the reset button falling even further behind the other programs in the SEC. Unlike someone like UF, GT doesn’t have the $$$ to hit the reset button after 2 years let alone 1. GT could attract a big name, but they need 2 things in order to do so. Have $$$ and relax on the academic front. Until the NCAA is officially blown up removing the APR, GT the school won’t go back to just letting in players like the 90’s.

Some discussion from the opponents here, and one serious douchbag of a dwag fan

Should we tell him?

Their run game ripped us pretty good last year. Judkins is a pretty good RB.
What worries me about their pass defense is if they can generate pressure. I hope we find ways (keep a back or a TE in) to help the O line. Their DC is Pete Golding, who also coached under Our Dark Lord Saban.
Tulane's D got them for four sacks last week. Then again, I think Tulane has an underrated D line too.
Comparing anything from the clown era to the current year is futile. They ran because they felt sorry for us and we probably had 1 first down the whole game.

Did any of the major teams play in Miss back then?
No. The link @stinger78 provided in another post sheds a lot of light on what scheduling was like during our SEC years. Nobody played them in Oxford back then. We played them twice (once in Atlanta, once in the Sugar Bowl). Alabama played them three times during the same timespan (never in MS). Georgia played them four times during those same 31 season (never in MS). LSU played them 29 times during that timespan. Three of those games were in Oxford. And that didn’t start til the 50s. We played Notre Dame 10 times during those years, six of those were in South Bend.

Mississippi is the most full of öööö fanbase in college football.
