Ole Miss opens -21.5

It seems like this game may play to our perceived strengths. Miss’s running game is not good. Great news because our run defense is not good. They rely on a passing game and our secondary is supposedly a team strength.

Miss’s passing defense is not great but not horrible either.

or maybe I’m completely wrong here.
Their run game ripped us pretty good last year. Judkins is a pretty good RB.
What worries me about their pass defense is if they can generate pressure. I hope we find ways (keep a back or a TE in) to help the O line. Their DC is Pete Golding, who also coached under Our Dark Lord Saban.
Tulane's D got them for four sacks last week. Then again, I think Tulane has an underrated D line too.

Current consensus line is Ole Piss -18.

3.5 point swing is a pretty big move.

Tulane pretty effectively stopped the Ole Miss run game with run blitzs. i feel certain Kiffin will try to establish the run early, I just hope to God Thacker can pull something out of his ass and we can step up and get some stops

I think the game hinges on whether we see an improvement in the defense from the Louisville game. Out of games between FBS opponents, GT is bottom 100 in defensive: yards per play, points per play, and points per drive. Having the defense come out and prove that is a fluke would be big.

Not confident our D can stop the Ole Miss O, but a few turnovers would help. Looking for a lot of luck here.

On a positive note, I’m not convinced Ole Miss is any better than Louisville on either side of the ball.

Take the points.

I'm interested to see how Louisville does from here on out. In the end we may find that they were one of the more balanced teams (and toughest across the LOS) we'll have faced this year next to better competition (Miami, UGAY, UNC, Clemson). We could be the Reb's 'trap' game too as they look ahead to Bama. I just want to continue to see very few penalties, big plays given up on D negated and the O being able to move the ball and having some balance in order to pass. My only concern at this point is there hasn't been a player across our defensive line that has proven he can wreak havoc. Probably the closest is Kennard right now. Production's going to have to come by 'committee'. I still think without an impact player like Keion White that makes the whole DL better, a 4-3 is safer than a 4-2-5 if everyone in the secondary is healthy. We can't let them break for big runs like we did w/ Louisville. Bring in Oliver, Efford, etc as a 3rd LB and stack the LOS.

kinda lame that even if we win we're going to get dismissed as ole miss overlooking to bama

They can spin it however they like if we win...bottom line, we win. :) I would like to think beating a team favored by 18pts over us is more than just them overlooking us. Let's do this.

We haven't beaten Ole Miss since the 50's when Dodd's best teams were on the field. We're 0-3 since then. It's time.

I'll be there, but if we win, I'll provide shots for everyone at next ST tailgate.

You're "expecting a W delivered or we're doomed for mediocrity" when ole miss is favored by 3 touchdowns? I want what you're drinking. Maybe you're just more optimistic than I am.

We're doomed if we don't win? I disagree. If we win, it'd be unexpected and would suggest a potential 8-9 win season. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you're expecting a win and think our season is over if we lose.

You guys are missing the point. The school has experimented with the football program enough. I apologize to coach Key if his predecessor ruined everyone's patience but it is time for results or keep the turnover machine churning until we find a combination of players/coaches that can deliver.

Agreed. Honestly they all should've been fired after the Louisville loss. We need results.

Future contacts should only extend till the first loss and then be terminated. This will undoubtedly ensure we attract the best coaches who know they can win and will actually perform

Your sarcasm aside, this isn't about one or two losses and I hope you're smart enough to know that. It's about progress and you start showing progress by picking up winnable games i.e. Louisville and in this case ole miss.

Ole miss is not some kind of magical powerhouse this year. The reason the odds are so skewed is because Vegas builds lines based primarily on history. They don't even look at injuries or anything like that until they get to the big money draw games. We need to start pulling off the wins on these coin toss games. That is how you measure progress.

Any coach of menial competence can come in here and win 5 games, look at the schedule. I think a lot of our fanbase has been lulled into accepting mediocrity and gets excited with anything above average. That expectation is what is hurting us from the beginning. Expecting a NC every year? Sure that's far fetched, but it's a goal. In the meantime pulling off 8+ win seasons regularly should be expected.

So yes, raise your bottom feeding standards a bit. I didn't say Key can't do it, I said it's time to show up with results. The rest of that candy ass thinking can GTFO of here.

Yes, I understand it's not about 1 or 2 losses. I also understand that while winnable the Ole Miss game is a 3 score spread and I wouldn't use a loss as a determining factor for doomerism. If they cover handily, sure.

I'll be looking more to next week against WF to see how we measure up for progress

Like I said, the expectation of mediocrity at its finest.

How exactly do you believe this is a “coin toss” game against a Top 25 team on the road who just played another Top 25 team?

GT is improved on offense, but outside of 1 quarter against Louisville it’s hard to tell just how much yet. Playing an FCS school was more of a tune-up for the real schedule. GT has upgraded at QB, depth at WR, but the OL is still a concern. WR blocking is also a real concern. There were too many blown up plays even against South Carolina State.

On D, the DL has struggled to get significant push in both games. The LB’s are a work in progress, while the secondary is the strength of the D.

If GT can’t stop the run Saturday, then it will have to be a track meet type game in order to have a chance to win. Ole Miss has some really good O personnel, but like GT, the D is the weakness of that team.

Key is 5-5 as GT HC. That’s not bad considering the mess he took over mid season last year. It’s going to take some time to build the roster and make the adjustments to the staff. Not sure what you expected in year 1, but it generally takes some time to get the program turned around. Especially since GT can’t just use the portal like other schools.

You're kinda all over the map here. First, you call a three-TD spread a coin toss game. Then, you get standards and expectations mixed up. Having seen two games so far, I think you're getting ahead of yourself with respect to results expectations and I think most of the people on here talking like Tech is going to win a nine-touchdown shootout is misguided. None of that means anyone is accepting mediocrity.

Some discussion from the opponents here, and one serious douchbag of a dwag fan
