Ole Miss opens -21.5

I can’t decide if Thacker was given a chance to see what he could do under a different coach or if he was retained as a sacrificial lamb if the season took a downturn.

The offense is making him look bad. The improvement on that side of the ball is obvious. The D didn’t have the influx of transfers, so that doesn’t help.
So, here's the deal:

1) the defense is what got us 4 wins last year. Point blank, the offense did absolutely nothing and the defense saved our asses specifically Key's. Key HAD to consider keeping Thacker as a result even though he, like most everyone else, knew the results were likely most attributable to the 2 senior LBs and Keion White. Still Thacker called some outstanding games.
2) feelers were sent out and interviews performed for several DCs, but we got turned down by everyone who was an obvious upgrade.

As a result, Key was left with only one real option: give Thacker a "prove it" year. I don't agree with bringing Marco Coleman back, but that was Key's preference. Coach Semore leaving was not our choice and we did the best we could in backfilling, but I think that's another downgrade. I've never been sold on Tillman either. In short, I think we're going to see a whole new staff on that side of the ball soon enough (unless we hire Mel Tucker, which will go over about like Al Groh).

I don't think anyone is touching Mel Tucker in the future unless it's a phone call ;)

Yeah, I’m worried that changing the DL coach was a blunder. Mainly because the other guy was very good.

This is our second fairly high-profile, evening TV game of the season. Our game is on SECN at 7:30 and the higher interest game, Florida/Tennessee kicks off on ESPN at 7:00. Pitt and WV are on ABC at 7:30, and Syracuse/Purdue is on NBC. If Tech keeps the game interesting, we can get some exposure.

This spread is an insult and any member of our team with a set balls should be pissed to no end! This alone should be all the motivation for the defense to MAN UP AND MAKE A DAMN PLAY!
Last year was an insult, lane Kiffin constantly stealing our players is an insult, hell the state of Mississippi is an insult, lets freaking kill these bastards

Florida is straight trash, that game will be over by halftime

Thacker and our Def are money against UNC, hopefully Ole Miss wears powder blue this wknd and Thacker gets confused and calls a flawless game and our boys in white and gold execute it perfectly.
Dart is gonna be throwing darts to our DB's

was shocked

Well everyone has an opinion but I have never been impressed that Thacker has a great plan. His guarding wheel routes with a defensive end just griped me. I knew UGA would catch him with it and they did. I was surprised we kept him. Granted defense did cause a lot of turnovers and play well late last year but I thought linebackers and White covered up the deficiencies. Maybe we did put out feelers without much luck but always thought we were given him the benefit of doubt because the Clown was messing with him. Ready for a new DC. As far as Coleman, he has done a great job recruiting which is 60% of the battle. The 24 dline recruits, if we can keep them, are outstanding recruits so don't want to mess that up. I think Coleman deserves the recruiting credit from my limited knowledge.

White, along with Thomas and Eley, got a lot of pressure on QB's last season, especially late. That changes the whole dynamic of what a D has to do. If a college QB has time to let his WRs run full routes, then he can pick any DB apart. If that QB has to throw it within 3 seconds most plays, he will not.

I think we’ll beat the spread of 21.5 but it’ll be close.

How do you know we sent out feelers for other DCs? Or are you guessing?

I expect a shootout. I think the over should be over 70pts for sure. I think Buster F finds a way to exploit the 3-4/3-3-5. Our D hasn't shown that it can contain a balanced offense nor put pressure on a QB. We're now down 2 DEs unless Kelly is cleared to play on Sat. We need to blitz either the LB or S on delayed blitzes. Their offense certainly wasn't the offense we played last year. They've lost some playmakers. If King doesn't force the ball and we take what they give us field wise while on O, I actually like our chances to keep it close or even pull an upset.

This site has been pretty good at predicting so far this year, and it has us losing 41-18 ... ouch. I don't think it'll be that bad, but maybe it's just my Tech bias.
