I remember this one time we hired a coach from a service academy who had a ton of success there, and he coached at GA Southern and was successful there too. He led us to 3 wins over UGA, 3 ACCCG’s and some of our best seasons ever.

Now I didn’t start watching GT football in the ‘90s so I know I’m not as moronic as some of those folks who hate this program and hate Paul Johnson, but maybe….just maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to try that route again. That is before Monken is coaching a Big Ten school or worse one of our opponents and dismantling us.

Exactly. No school is idiotic enough to make that move. CPJ was the best at what he did and his tree is full of good coaches who could never quite have as much success as he did. Why would we get a worse version of CPJ for ourselves and tie us to a service academy identity? BTW, with rules changes it isn't really even working as well for the service academies nowadays. Any promise by one of his disciples to not be tied to the offense will go over about as well as the diamond formation.

A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

He wouldn’t take the job. This is currently a career ending dumpster fire. We need an interim to stabilize. I’d fire Collins and the whole crew. Keep Key or Choice as HC for 2-3 years and at least get the fire put out of the dumpster. It will still be a dumpster. But at least it won’t be on fire.

Well dantonio did way better at Michigan state. After all that’s the comparison right?

GA Southern was in a much better position when PJ took over than when Monken took over. Their academy records are basically a wash since Navy and AF are better than they were pre-Paul Johnson. I don’t think it’s so obvious that Monken is a worse version of Paul Johnson in fact I think Monken is what many of us wanted Paul Johnson to be. I think the players who played for him at GT agreed.

and frankly if Paul Johnson light means 1 ACCG appearance, 2 UGA victories and only 1 top 10 finish every decade, yes I’ll take it right now.
