One More Year

It's going to be more than 'One More Year' and most likely more than two. Todd is not going to move on Collins until he absolutely needs to decide on giving him an extension, probably after year 6. The argument is always going to be that the program needs to be entirely built up, not only with strong starters, but solid depth - all CGC recruits. He won't have a real senior class for 2-3 years. I don't think there will be coordinator changes either. Patenaude has shown enough 'development' to stay. Thacker is not acting like someone whose job is on the line - hell, he was taking pictures and joking at a tailgate two hours before the last game.

No way Collins goes to less than 3 years on his contract. That is recruiting death. Next year will be the year on renewal. A ho hum year and Collins gets the extra time without increasing the buyout. He won’t really have much of a hand to negotiate with unless he wins 8. If he can do that, then someone might want him, otherwise it is back to being a coordinator or stay at GT.

Does anyone really believe that firing Collins would send a bad message? FSU fired Taggart after 1 and a half seasons right?

If the AD feels like he has to keep Collins, then he should seek something like was done with Frost at Nebraska. That will tell you how much Collins wants to be here and how confident he is that he can do better than 3 wins a year. The fan base is already eroding and a repeat or only marginal improvement next year will be very difficult to overcome.

uga will be the #1 team in the nation. Playing in Atlanta. TStan should be talking to MBS to have them host the game and begging the ACC to blackout the game on TV.

Edit: $100 per seat and 1 free beer. He could probably match the proceeds of the other 6 home games
I think drinking heavily the morning of, and blacking out for the game is a great idea.

I don't see that. We can't continue carrying dead money. Todd knows that. If Collins is the all-powerful recruiter he claims, there should be no recruiting death. If we have diminishing recruiting, it won't matter, because the next coach would be making the 'greatest transition known to the universe' anyway. Carrying Collins on top of a new staff puts on the same boat as when we brought him on. Riding it out gives us at least more money to find a real coach.

If the standpoint of the GTAA and/or Collins this offseason is hold the course with no staff changes:

Yes. You're correct. One final hail mary season.

If there are changes made in the coaching tree, particularly on defense, I think he gets two more years barring total implosion (think losing the team).

My personal preference is to change the DC and every secondary coach other than Collins. I don't want to flush the much better recruiting, Choice, Caralla, or Coleman out with the bathwater. I said before the season started, looking at their 3+ TD average margin of defeat that there was no way they were going to a bowl this year. If they don't crap the bed against NIU and Miami they probably look roughly how I'd expect them to. The average margin of defeat is closer to one score with the massive asterisk that the remaining two games could blow that up. But almost all of that closing of the gap has been the light starting to flicker and even momentarily come on for the offense. The defense has not only gotten worse from last season it has gotten worse over the course of the season. If they fielded even a mediocre defense this year they're probably easily going to a bowl game right now.

We can raise $100 million in an overall Athletics initiative to improve facilities including a new Edge building, but can't raise a few mil for an early buyout? Some of these high rollers need to step up if they care as much as they say they do.

No distinction is made in AI2020 between actual cash in hand and pledges. You'll likely find in the actual accounting there's a whole lot of pledging and a whole lot less of cash in hand. FWIW, I believe that's typical at most athletic departments.

He will have plenty of Sophomores and Juniors next season. Take a look at our 1990 MNC roster. It will also be his 6th year as a HC.
