Pat Fitzgerald allegations

I’m not sure how you reached your opinion that college and pro sports people are some of the most amoral people around. I would rate them somewhat in the middle. Slightly below truck drivers and teachers and slightly above insurance agents and bankers. As for the surprise of the reaction, how would you feel if you had invested time and money in this program and found out that this idiocy was being ignored if not encouraged?
I suppose you’re right. They aren’t the most amoral people around. They just have far less character and moral fiber than most people seem to realize. I reached this opinion slowly over years of drunken gang rapes, drunk driving incidents, domestic violence, murder and hit men accusations, etc. essentially athletes grow up in an environment that is violent, competitive and testosterone fueled with little to no repercussions for their actions given their wealth or potential to gain massive wealth. Not a good recipe for moral behavior.

As for the second comment, I think I would say these allegations sound worse than they are.

This figures. With today's media, always looking for someone who has been "offended", this cat looks like just the type to take an incident, embellish it, and find a dip öööö reporter to play it up. Remember back when those kids from Tech were falsely accused of rape? Killed their careers, never got to play again and the skank got her fiftenn minutes of fame.

I cannot find any record of an Eduardo Soto having played football for Northwestern.
that's cuz he probably washed their jock straps being an equipment manager
(not suggesting that i have any idea but duke lacrosse fake allegations happened. thorough investigation needed)

So the tweet alleging that the allegations are embellished embellished its source in an attempt to gain credibility? This is getting a little too Meta for me.

For what it's worth, the school says they have done a thorough investigation involving over 50 former players and staffers and found the allegations to be largely credible. They released an executive summary here:

they may have done a thorough investigation at that time.. that executive summary (undated?) however isn't very convincing due to legitimate confidentiality.
The two week suspension was what that investigation concluded.
A lot of accusations and support have come out since then.
It's not clear to me what admins have done since the more recent allegations.
If guilty firing is appropriate.
better get film on Saban and Kirby at practice. See if they clap their hands!

Fair enough. It would also be interesting to know if their investigation did uncover these new allegations but they were trying to sweep it under the rug. I guess we will probably never know.

What their investigation found was probably some laughing football players saying “haha yeah that happened but it wasn’t exactly like that” not fully understanding the gravity of their words. A school like NW is salivating at an opportunity to show that the football team doesn’t run the school.

agree, it's possible new allegations occurred because someone was pissed off that their specific allegations weren't included in that executive summary.

Don’t think for a minute that GT doesn’t have a LOT of folks in administration who would love to see our sports programs go away. Give it a few years of us winning some games and getting 4 star types and you’ll see them rear up as “confidential sources“ to the AJC. We’ve seen this before.

I’m not really sure why winning games would be a catalyst for this kind of action by these people in administration. Northwestern had a record of 1-11 last year and 3-9 the year before.

And now Northwestern has fired its baseball coach......

Link

A source told ESPN that Foster likely would have been fired earlier, but Northwestern's legal and human resources departments were focused on Monday's firing of football coach Pat Fitzgerald in the wake of a hazing investigation into the program.

lol

Good days over at Northwestern.

Kinda glad my old HS football coaches are almost all gone now. The maltreatment of underclassmen was a time-honored tradition back in the day.

Im certainly glad Fitzgerald was the only coach aware of all the hazing as the rest of staff stays lol

Well getting rid of the whole staff would probably be the equivalent of giving the program the death penalty, but yeah, it is ridiculous to think that it falls only on him...or even that he was the most involved.

They’re essentially all interim this year and will mostly be gone after they hire an external candidate next offseason. It’s just a way to keep the program on life support instead of kill it.
