Pat Fitzgerald allegations

I posted this on the uga thread, but it bears reposting here ---
Like politics, some people are untouchable. This Moore character makes the point that the two situations are linked, but they actually are not. Smart was coached to distract from the sexual misconduct by talking about speeding. His softball press conference never pressed him with tough questions. At uga, people were killed. If even 10% of the allegations are true, some got away with rape. To me that seems far more serious than hazing. Like Urban Meyer who covered up murder at Florida, Smart will live on. It will soon be off the news cycle.

It’s just a way to keep the program on life support instead of kill it.
They went 1-11 last season. Pulling the plug doesn't seem to be a bad option. At least they can fire the coach with cause and not pay him millions to go away.

I hope you are wrong about it being off the news cycle. It needs to stay there until someone is held accountable.

Never understood why forced homosexual acts are funny to some guys

Glad I never played college sports

I remember one guy in high school who used to go around and poke guys in the butt with a broom handle or a pool cue or whatever. Incidentally he went on to play college football
Things have definitely changed. You’d have ended up in a ditch by the side of the road if you have tried to ram something up somebody’s butt in any of my locker rooms. That’s just downright impolite regardless of the sexual orientation of the target.

When did all of this get mainstreamed, the 90’s?

If Smart was going 1-11 instead of winning national titles his press conferences would suddenly not be softballs anymore, and people would care a lot more about the off-the-field issues.

Winning still trumps almost everything.

He is gone immediately if it was 1-11.

8-4 is probably hot seat territory there.

My favorite part any time a pretty good coach is fired amid scandal and disgrace is the inevitable "Tech should hire him" post.
Yep. Either they want somebody who coached here before, played here before, passed out in the bushes here before OR some oddball, quirky dude who had that one season and is now neck deep in hot water and getting divorced at the same time but knows the Dalai Lama.

Every college cut list could do this imo

So only the hazing of black guys matter. Wasn't it a goofy white guy QB involved in exposing it?

I assume this lawsuit will include some white players as well. And if not, I'm sure that the white players will sue separately. But also equally.

According to the lawsuit, assistant coaches were "ran" by players "on more than one occasion." The complaint defines "running" as incidents in which a group of players forcibly held down a nonconsenting individual and "[rubbed] their genital areas against the [person's] genitals, face, and buttocks while rocking back and forth."

“During a training session during the Fall of 2015 or Spring of 2016, a strength and conditioning coach was ‘ran’ by members of the football team, on the field, in front of the entire team and coaching staff,” the lawsuit alleges.

If this is really true there should be tons of witnesses. Also...what the öööö.

Now I finally know what it means when they say "That guy is a baller", was really confused hearing that about the hockey players.

I maintain it is bullshit until someone proves something. Now we have a guy who claims he got his feelings hurt twenty years ago who wants some money to go away. When these snowflakes cry, it makes it difficult to hold people accountable for real abuse. Several coaches have gone on record saying multiple layers of communication were in place to report problems. The media, when they sensationalize, are never held accountable. Look at the rush to judgement in the Duke lacrosse case.

My biggest memory of that was how no one made them apologize for the outright lies they spread. How they hid the fact that they know she willing had sex with multiple men that night. That drives me up the wall. How do you not even attempt to establish credibility?
