See edit. It ain't good.
I mean actual game data. What happened and why didn't we score in the redzone? I know there were a lot of missed FG's. Also a lot of failed 4th down conversions when we were too afraid to send out our kicker. I'll pull it tomorrow and see. So far this year we only have 2 redzone trips in which we didn't score. The NIU 4th down that should've been a FG, and the Clemson stop at the end of the game.

That's good for 68th in the country in RZ scoring... which is not acceptable to me. Especially when we are 1-2.

Of course it's not but like you say, small sample size. Also you have to take some context into it. We should've kicked that FG against NIU. That would be 10/11 which would have us tied for 44th. We also could've kicked a meaningless FG at end of Clemson instead of trying to win the game and we'd be 11/11, 100% in first.

Ok. So here are all of our possessions inside the 10 yard line for the past two years. TL;DR version is we had 21 possessions inside the 10 yard line, 13 TDs, 4 FGs, 1 blocked FG, 1 fumble, 2 turnover on downs. The blocked field goal was after 3 straight runs, a penalty and a pass attempt. The fumble was on 2nd down after a run on 1st down. One of the FG's against Clemson was when we had 1st and goal from the 10 with only 15 seconds left before half and one timeout. Sure you can run it once there but only once, and we did on 2nd down and had to use the TO. The 2nd one we absolutely had to score so we were trying everything, plus we're playing one of the best fronts in CFB, so you play percentages and I'm not sure I'd run it straight into the teeth of that defense. The only really bad call to me was when we got that last first down, I wouldn't have called the timeout there, I would've run it on 1st down while they were on their heels and then called timeout if we didn't get it. That timeout didn't come from the OC, so that's not on him. And to that same point, the timeout in the NIU game wasn't called by him either and that was a bonehead move by our HC, should've just kicked the FG. Also, if you go back and re-watch, that 2nd down play where we had to burn a timeout against NIU, they started the play clock as soon as the previous play ended which was a run by Mason up the middle. There was a pile up of players they had to unstack and really should've reset the play clock. By the time everybody was up it was already under 25, so when the play came in, Jordan didn't pay attention that the play clock was about to expire and we had to call one before he took a delay. Still not sure what you were talking about against KSU seeing as we were 5/5 inside the redzone that game. If anything, the Clemson game is the only outlier, and they have an elite defense, so I can understand trying to get creative with play-calling there. The timeout we had to take on 3rd down there hurt, but the play call was in, you could see the sidelines telling them to run it and Jordan was clearly confused, he didn't get the call so we had to call timeout. Anyway, below are all of our 10 yard line and in possessions for the past 2 years. I don't see too many bonehead calls in there and surely don't see any trend towards what you are referring to:

Ok here are the rest of the redzone trips from last year and this year from outside the 10. There is actually one in here that started at the 10 against NIU that I forgot to put in with yesterday's list. Let's also not forget that anytime you cross the 20, that is considered a redzone trip, so it may be on 2nd or 3rd down when you cross the 20, and if you don't convert after that, it is still considered a failed redzone conversion. Again the TL;DR version is that we had 20 other redzone trips besides the <10 yard line ones listed yesterday. We had 10 TDs, 2 FGs, 3 missed FGs (2 blocked), 2 INTs, 3 turnover on downs. The two INTs, one was bad throw and one Sims was hit as he threw and the ball popped up in the air. The 3 turnover on downs, one was late against BC where a FG wouldn't matter, one was late against Pitt where FG wouldn't matter, the other was at the end of half against NC State and we didn't trust the kicker to try a 35 yard field goal. By the way, anybody that wants to say our stats aren't good even for a small sample size this year, we are 9/11 in the redzone and UGAg is 8/11. We both have 6 TDs in 11 attempts. We have 3 FG's, they have 2. Here are the drives. I don't see anything that points to stupid play calling as being the reason we aren't converting:

1 – FSU 1st and 10 from 15 - INT
  • 1st and 10 – Jeff Sims pass intercepted. (bad throw, Jeff didn't see the safety)

2 – FSU 1st and 10 from 19 - TD
  • 1st and 10 – Jordan Mason run for 19 yard TD.

3 – FSU 1st and 10 from 15 - TD
  • 1st and 10 – Jeff Sims pass to Malachi Carter for 15 yard TD.

4 – FSU 1st and 10 from 11 - FG
  • 1st and 10 – Jeff Sims run for loss of 3 yards.
  • 2nd and 13 – Jamious Griffin run for 2 yards.
  • 3rd and 11 – GT false start
  • 3rd and 16 – Jeff Sims run for 2 yards.
  • 4th and 14 – 32 yard FG good.

5 – UCF 1st and 10 from 11 – FG blocked
