Paul Johnson deserved better.

If there was one clear result to unite the fan base to get behind and support Coach Collins and the post PJ transition, this was it. I liked Paul, but it is what it is and he got the result he earned. We do have a lot of senior players who I hope grow the hell up and realize this result that sent out PJ a back to back 24+ losers is just as much on them. Sadly they probably never will because they seem completely clueless.

What I think Collins brings that a lot of the GT fans want desperately is conformity. Win or lose, Collins will do it in a manner that is more acceptable to the fan base.
what does this even mean?

what are your guidelines for an acceptable loss? how much different are they to any other given coach's losses?

Dafuq does this even mean? Collins' style of losing will be more acceptable? Legit poptart.

Eh. No, he still needs to win a lot more than he loses, long-term. Gailey had conformity and put people in the NFL, but 7-6 still got old pretty quickly.

I think most GT fans, whether fans of PJ or not, want is a coach to lead us out of the period of mediocrity we've been in the last four years.
2016 was not a mediocre year. The last two years have been a tough transition going from one of the best QBs of CPJ’s era to one of the worst.

The post you quoted is correct. People don’t like being different. We will play the game in the same way as most college teams and get some decent players but we will by and large achieve similar to slightly less than similar results under Collins. We will have a good defense though so that will be fun.

If Collins ever beats UGA I will be surprised.

I have been iiwii with Paul for the last two years - did not necessarily want him to go but desperately wanted him to go. I am happy that this is era is over, but I am not convinced that we have the infrastructure to be much better than where Paul has taken us. I hope I am wrong, and I love the Collins hire, and again I was done with Paul after the Duke game this year. I do wish it would have ended on a better note but I honestly don't care and Paul showed how much he cared with how unprepared his team was today

The Duke game this year was weird and where CPJ lost me for good. I wanted to be really pissed off, but I hit this weird apathy where it became comical to watch because it was so damned bad. Clemson was worse but I expected it.

CPJ deserved a better last few years of his career then what this senior class gave him, that's for sure. Sucks it ended the way it did, but he gave us some good times.

I said this I'm the Gameday thread, but it bears repeating: the Belk Bowl was right. They didn't invite us and Auburn because they didn't want a non competitive, epic beatdown, bowl game. If Minnesota beats us as badly as they did, Auburn's better athletes would have murdered us

Meh, GT doesn't play like this in a game anyone cares about; maybe we still lose, but not looking like this. One positive from today is we don't have to display the trophy from this bowl as a constant reminder we were ever there.

Pass me some of whatever you are owing or snorting. Must be good stuff.

Never said 2016 was mediocre. The last four years have absolutely been a mediocre period, though. Maybe some eternal optimists thought we were on the precipice of another 2014 type year, but my guess is it would be more of the same.

I think he will beat UGA if they're in a down year. I don't see any Tech coach beating them when they're a top 5 team like they've been the last two years or in 2012. PJ's teams certainly didn't come close those years.

I hit that point with the Pitt game.
