Last week of the regular season is going to be very interesting. All of these games have potential playoff ramifications:

Miami vs Syracuse
Clemson vs South Cakalaka
Tennesse vs Vandy
SMU vs Cal
Texas vs aTm
Awwbarn vs Bama
Boise State vs Oregon State
KState vs Iowa State
Colorado vs Oklahoma State
Arizona State vs Arizona
BYU vs Houston
Notre Dame vs USC
Penn State vs Maryland
Tulane vs Memphis ???
Jackets vs Mutts

Probably some others I missed.

All of these games could be critical for the final 12 team slate. Let's say Tech beats the mutts, and the mutts lose badly in the SEC championship game, would a 4 loss UGA be in the playoffs? Does a 3 loss Bama still have a chance?

This is probably as far down the rabbit hole I want to go right now but there are a lot of unforeseen circumstances that could impact the final 12 team playoff. Does a 2 loss Clemson leapfrog a 1 loss Indiana? Will a 2 loss ACC runner-up (SMU or Miami) make the 12 team playoff?

Clear as mud right now, but there are a lot of these games in week 14 that suddenly mean a lot more.

What possible surprise scenario's do you see?

Words words words JUST BEAT uga. I don’t give a single F what happens after that. The whole “playoff” thing has become totally subjective and political and just fake. The only playoff game that matters is Tech winning Friday. After that, uga can win or lose all they want, they’ll still be losers. THWg

You missed our game

entertaining weekend for sure.
3 ea for B10/SEC and 2 ea for ACC/B12 +ND/BS
would be a good initial playoff.
Indiana should be out now.
They were never a top 10 quality team.

I feel like Clemson has an argument to be included if they beat South Carolina. Especially if they do so convincingly. I feel they are a better team than Indiana. I expect an upset or two this week.

Regardless, I think there will be a few teams left out that have good reason to be mad about it.

I suppose there's usually at least one team with a valid gripe. The difference this year is that everyone noles better than to raise too much fuss.

So... the rankings come out at noon today.

Here are the candidates:
Oregon
Georgia
Boise State
Arizona State
Notre Dame
Penn State
Texas
Ohio State
Tennessee
Indiana
Clemson
SMU
Alabama
Miami

Likely Alabama and Miami get left out but who knows.

I think 12 teams is too many. There are a lot of not great teams on this list that have no business playing to win the natty. I think you could make an argument for a 5 team playoff with the #1 team getting a bye and the other 4 teams playing off to play #1 for the natty.

In that scenario you would have #1 Oregon waiting at the top which they deserve. You would then have possibly UGA, Arizona State, Clemson, and Boise State as the 4 teams since they won their conferences. Fuck Notre Dame. Join a fucking conference. The rest of the list are a bunch of good but not great teams that shouldn't be playing for a natty.

12 teams is too damn many teams.

Yeah. It feels watered down. I thought 6 with 2 byes should have been the max.

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Boise St
4. Arizona St
5. Clemson
6. Notre Dame

Oregon vs Arizona St/Clemson
Georgia vs Boise St/Notre Dame

Conference play IS the playoffs, winner take all, second place isn’t considered for playoff contention. Notre Dame is getting a mulligan, join a conference or you’re out moving forward.

Here’s the flaw in your argument:
$12 < $5

It is not too many. It is too few until all conference champs make the playoff.

Yes, this is why we have 82 regular season NBA games, 162 MLB games, and 17 NFL games. And then rounds and rounds of more playoffs because somehow those excessive regular season games couldn't narrow down the list to the few teams that deserve to play for a championship.

They've managed to water down the product to where it's almost unwatchable until you get near the end of the season. Not to mention how many players now take extended "rest days".

Too many games eventually drives down revenue but they will have to discover that the hard way I guess.

Just want Ugag to have as many chances to lose in epic fashion as possible

Would you be on here saying that if we were, let's say 9th, or if it was 2009 or 2014 where we would've got in and damn sure could've won the whole thing.

I say get your mind rite, this should always be viewed through the lens of what is best for GT, 12 teams is better if for no other reason than it gives us better odds of getting in (which we are going to do in short orde I predict) and less chance of getting the shaft which would absolutely happen if it were 4-5 teams. Nothing else matters, not even close.

No, you get YOUR mind right!

Win the ACC and Tech is in. We don't need any backdoors.
