It's easy to complain about losses to Duke, because they were a consistent loser for long periods in the past, but CPJ is not responsible for Duke getting competitive. The Blue Devils have played in 5 bowl games in the last 6 years. Prior to that, it took them 54 years to play in 5 bowl games. They won the Coastal in 2013 and finished the season ranked in the Top 25 that year. It pains me to give them any respect, but they are solidly in the middle of the pack of the ACC, and losing to them is no worse than a loss to Pitt, UNC, BC, or NCS.

ftfy. Hell he still has a better win % against duke than GT did before he got here.
He was able to coast off superior talent his first couple years here. Talent he didn’t recruit.

Now that the roster is all his, the win % against Duke is more like .25.

I long for the days when Duke and UNC were each other's best chance to win a conference game. UNC may be returning to its rightful place, but its going to take Cutcliffe quitting for Duke to do the same.

Why are missed bowl games relevant? If we won a natty one year and missed a bowl game the next would you care?
I don’t know, Coit. Why is only winning 3 games a year relevant when talking about how shitty the coach is.

why AREN'T missed bowl games relevant?

The toxic takeover of our program by the mediocre mantra "IIWII" is apparently complete.

it's sooo much easier to make excuses.

Ha. You guys are really something. Every coach with the exception of Voldemort, that we have had here is a good coach. But there is one common denominator that all of those coaches had to deal with. The I.

Many of those coaches had penned in wins against D every year because they had zero commitment to football. Well, that has changed. As has the commitment of the rest of the ACC to football. The one thing that remains the same is the I. Could it be better? Sure. It could be better whether or not we actually change coaches. That is for sure. We have seen better, we have seen worse. If you compare our record to the ACC, we have done fairly well. It could be worse too. I would venture the downside is just as likely than the upside. But more likely we will stay about the same as we have been because of the I. We would hire someone who was perhaps competent (though we did hire Voldemort as I recall). If they did get us to an Orange Bowl, they would leave for double pay without a doubt (unlike the current guy).

Call it an excuse, I call it reality. I enjoy reality.

Speaking of reality, no one else wants CPJ and his offensive scheme on their campus ( no one outside lowly Southern and perhaps the service academies).

That's why he didn't "leave for double pay without a doubt."
