Thought King showed some real promise. There were plenty of errors to go over on the tape, as well, but I can see a world where he's a successful three-year starter for Tech.

We have some talented skill position players who I'm excited to see the rest of the season.

Played a very clean game from a penalty standpoint, which was refreshing.

I'm not nuanced enough in my analysis of the game to pinpoint what changed from the Louisville defense in the second half, but we stopped being able to generate much of anything on the ground outside of scramble yardage, and seemed to mostly abandon a lot of the RPO stuff that had Louisville off balance in the first half. Felt like we lost the adjustment battle.

The tackling and coverage got worse and worse as the game progressed. I'm guessing injuries played a factor there, but it was very frustrating, especially since their QB threw like 1-2 good passes all game in which there was either any pressure or any coverage.
 
We will get a lot better. The things we didn't do well were disappointing but this team has some fight in them.

The loss of Nate McCollum was evident. Losing some guys by halftime didn't help. This was hugely disappointing but don't read too much into it.
 
I'm deep into the whiskey so won't rant. But, we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

emotions were:
1st quarter: ugly, establishing mediocre swing passes. but having fun drinking beer with all my jolly good fellows
2q: pleasantly surprised, drinking more
3q: OK we may not suck... But then
4q: F. exit
 
I’m a big Brent Key fan. But this is his team now, he’s no longer the interim coach. Blowing a 28-7 lead to lose the game is on him. It seemed like we couldn’t counter their line adjustments in the second half unless someone can tell me why we couldn’t run the ball anymore.

they were stacking the box knowing we just were gonna try to run since 1) we had success in 2nd quarter running betweek tackels and 2) we were playing conservative and they knew we would

i'd have liked to see some runs outside the tackes or at least something different.. it was vanilla and right into the teeth of the defense.. terrible play calling and terrible execution to rely on that oline to move the chains

especially knowing how bad our D was playing the O had to score or we'd lose and thats exactly what happened

even my 9 year old son was like... why do they just run into them and not hold on with their arms?.. he was counting missed tackles on the replay and got to like 5 on one play
 
It was frustrating. Hopefully we review the tapes and note how stupid we were in the 2nd half and we regain some confidence against SC St. Then it's off to Ole Miss. The presser should be interesting.
 
Our defense held them to 1/11 on 3rd downs. They completed a 4th down play before a 3rd down play. This is solely on running halfback dive every play and keeping the defense out there the majority of the 2nd half.
 
After all these years we still have a glaring weakness "tackling". How many times did we miss tackles in the open field to allow big gains? I thought Faulkner called a terrific first half but did not continue to keep the foot on the accelerator. Our OL was not getting enough control of the LOS to continue to try to run on first and second down to try and bleed the clock, plus it was way too early. With the game on the line with just a little over 3 minutes and getting close to the EZ was a time to be more conservative and to eat clock. Instead, we try to throw and allow a blindside hit on the QB. Of course, our FG kicking is atrocious as usual. Still with all this being said, Key was a great hire.
