Was it surprising to have that many missed assignments this late in the year? CPJ: "Yes it was. That's a reflection on me and that's a reflection on our coaches" (2:20)

Standard issue coach response. It is what it is I guess.

Seems that, for several years now, the biggest problem we always have is "missed assignments".

So is it bad coaching?
Is it players not smart enough "football wise"?
Is it a system too complicated?
All if the above?

The coach’s show was pretty informative. First, apparently Jim from Auburn has killed himself, as he was not on the air.

Otherwise, he was pretty candid about the things that happened during the game. Gave a lot more detailed response.

Addressed a comment regarding averaging 6 wins a year, talking about how much tougher the conference is now than it was 10 years ago, etc.

On the fake punt, he said the play was supposed to be a short pass, and receivers are protected within the first 15 yards or something like that, I didn’t catch everything he said. Then, during the play, Percy threw it like 30 yards or something. Supposedly the rule differentiates between a shorter pass and a “punt length” pass? Again, didn’t quite catch what he said.

HIS NAME IS PRESSLEY!!!!!!!

I hate losing to duke as much as Kansas State.. but honestly who cares?

It's assignment football. Don't you watch our broadcasts?

“our broadcasts?”

Our who? Games on tv? No, I go to them. Stingtalk have broadcasts of games? Same answer.

Coaches show? What?

And it appears other teams play without having assignments - is that correct?

Rule 7-3-8-c

"It is not defensive pass interference ...

4. When there is contact by a Team B player that otherwise would be pass interference during a down in which a Team A potential kicker, from a scrimmage kick formation, simulates a scrimmage kick by throwing the ball high and deep."

Yikes, that's the most down I've ever seen him. Seems to have all but packed it in for the year.

@5:41 "Did anyone play particularly well?" "No"

Yeah I think it was the "high and deep" part that he had asked the referee about I guess.

Players aren't athletic enough to complete the assignment?

If he says anything else he get accused of blaming players and not taking responsibility. What should he say?
For a comparison, Brian Kelly took responsibility after they got raped by Miami and gave some specifics where coaching better would've gotten his players in better position to make plays or not make mistakes. For example, on the pick six, he said "this was a standard QB read of (insert coaching jargon) coverage and the ball needs to be placed on the outside shoulder rather than the inside. We've got to coach them better so they recognize these situations." To me, this is a coach who explains the situation and how it could've been better.

Now in the case of CPJ, many times his team just was physically outmatched at the point of attack. You can't coach any better and the players can't play any better. In that situation, you just shrug and say "it's on us coaches, blah blah..." because you don't want to demoralize your team.
