Post SC State Game Discussion 9.9.2023

The in-house announcer was awful. He kept calling Kennard, Avery Boyd. Same number but one is a starter on defense and the other is not.
I have no idea if this is true, but a friend of mine said that on another site (no idea which one) that JBatt didn't like the music or the PA man either. I hope that is true and he addresses both.

Somebody better tell him that messing with the Budweiser song will get him rode out of town on rails.

What was the seemingly random Buzz cutting wood and playing with a dog (?) bout or intended to convey?

Buzz does skits now. They were lame and mostly bad last year but the students love them. I don’t get it.

I doubt that is what he meant. THAT is a tradition. The incessant blaring of music during breaks in play is not.
Yes, it gets old, except when they played "Don't stop till you get enough" by Michael Jackson which is on his greatest album, "Off the Wall". Fight me.

I don’t remember seeing many (or any) blitzes, were we keeping it vanilla by design??

The music was largely terrible, and also too loud and deafeningly trebly much of the time, and I say this as a guy that still goes to a lot of loud concerts.

The uncensored quasi-music they played early in the afternoon was the worst. The best was the R&B oldies they played during the rain delay (Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Aretha, Jackson 5, etc.). Taylor Swift got the studen section dancing. “Pour Some Sugar on Me” got the teenaged Asian girl sitting with her mom near me dancing. Seems like they need to rethink the audience that they’re playing the music for, turn it down a little, and stop doing the thing where they play 2.5 seconds of a song and then either hard stop it or switch to a different song.

The Buzz skits are embarrassing and stupid. The hype man was like “give it up for Buzz” and the stadium was silent afterwards. An intervention is required.

What Tech has failed to understand is that every other school and pro team worth their salt has the game scripted in terms of A/V and music. The band knows when it’s going to play and the scoreboard doesn’t play over it. The band doesn’t try to play when the scoreboard is going. They have music and display options called up for any situation and press a button for it to go.

It’s not rocket science. Tech seems to have an Old Waffle House jukebox that someone waits to see what happens on the field and then takes a few minutes to pick an available song from a dated collection. By time the song starts it’s time to stop because of play.

A Buzz intervention. That sounds like a possible new reality TV show.

Bright spots were the RB’s, all four of them, running hard, fast and with good vision, punt returns, and defensive front. Our starting QB played well.
Agree on RBs, PRs, and QB, and I'd add WRs, too. We have some playmakers in that group. Someone said that Singleton reminds of Kelly Campbell. I thought the exact same thing on that long TD grab that it reminded me a lot of him. Singleton, Rutherford, Blaylock, Lane, and Leary all did well. It's the deepest group of WR we've had since the days of Joe Ham and Campbell, White, Watkins, Glover, and Muyres back in 1999.

I do think the DL played better on the whole, but I'd not call them bright spots. Kennard played particularly well and gets a shout out. Still a few too many holes being opened up there. I do think they made progress though.
