Post SC State Game Discussion 9.9.2023

Uga turns on the loud as hell bass and music way before kickoff. You can hear it pulsing as you get closer to the stadium and it draws people in. We, who have a serious problem with people showing up on time, need to figure out some way to get people in their seats for warmups and having action in the stadium is one way to do it. Their band follows the team in and everything starts there. Our band plays the team in and then dicks around campus for an hour or so before marching in. We should consider marching our band in earlier and let it play in the stands during warmups to get people in sooner.

You are correct about that part but I was talking about ingame and later stuff.

But most of that is still the difference in number of fans and that UGA is winning big; the fans want to be in their seats early for the experience.

Good info. Not to beat this to death or anything but so if OL basically off the hook then maybe perimeter blocking is on the hook? I recall those screens getting blown up but don't specifically recall any of our WR with a matador cape. It'll be interesting to see the tweaks we put in this week.
IMPO, the little quick screens are the hardest to get timing on and everyone has to hit their blocks. If not, it blows up. You have about 1.5 seconds to get the ball from C to QB to WR to be really effective.

Agree with all of this. The pregame band performance right before they head in needs to be about 1hr before kickoff at minimum. There are a ton of folks making their way up to the stadium around the time they play, and stop to watch the band performance. Then by the time you make it to your gate and get in, it's about 10 min to kickoff already.

There's definitely a lot of finesse on those plays. Your help outside has to make his block but mainly the WR is usually going to have to make at least one guy miss to get going, but it tends to be a good gainer if he does that. We've been showing a lot of screen like that, I'm waiting on us to set up the deep ball off of that.

Well he got injured in the first game and only played 1Q. Highly doubt he's already back to 100% yet.
I’m hoping so, if he can be at the level he’s expected, our defense is going to feast. Gonna need it this week for sure.

That seems to be his strategy. The play itself is going nowhere. But it could with proper execution, so I'd like to see them keep working at it.

Actually, I thought most of the UGA stuff was sub-par. I was surprised. Not saying GT is better or anything and we need a bigger video board. UGA fans like their lame stuff and that is why it works; it wasn’t the production or content.

Clemson had a great in game experience.

The bugle thing pregame is lame
Their entrance is lame.
They get so butthurt after a loss they IMMEDIATELY turn off the scoreboard the very second the clock hits 0:00 in the 4th.

FSU, IMO, has the best in game experience and had the best entrance in CFB. I think the splitting of the "T" at Tennessee is cool too. And, obviously, we have a 1930 Model A Sports Coupe that makes our entrance awesome.

How hard is it to look at your phone and go "kickoff....at 1 PM"

Where did the band perform pregame anyway? North Avenue? I think it is kind of stupid to block off North Avenue how they did. I still say they need to demolish Peter's deck and put a tailgate park area in there with a path down the middle for the team and band to march in.....bit, we will see about the North Avenue thing

And when is the construction starting on the north side? It was just a desolate wasteland Saturday.

People sit at their tailgates until 12:55 and then get caught in security gates. It’s a bad look. We should use our band to pied piper people in and have them entertained once there.

I normally like to head in and watch warmups a bit early. It is almost unbearable with the overly loud, dysfunctional, hip-hop we play. It is almost like someone has a CD or is streaming and plays a snippet and goes "Next song" every 20 seconds or so.

That said, I do think we have turned it down a tad since Collins. There were times in the pregame during Clown's tenure where I literally could not talk to the person next to me because of the volume of the P/A

I don't know how long ago it's been, maybe just before Collins, or maybe we stopped doing it at some point under CPJ, but I distinctly remember our team having like 4 sets of PA speakers on carts they would roll onto the field, facing the field for our players to listen to "their music" during warmups and not have that going thru the PA.

The North Avenue thing seemed well attended (especially considering the light crowd overall), but we’ll see how that holds up. I still think some of that stuff is better on the north end ultimately, since that’s where most people come from.

The band played at the Campanile and Library like usual. Not sure what they did next (we went over to the Tower tailgate), but they eventually marched up Techwood and played a little awkwardly at the corner of Techwood and North Ave, then marched back down Techwood to the stadium entrance. It was a little discombobulated, hopefully they’ll iron things out as the season progresses.

May be, may not be. But it's the easiest and quickest fix if it's not, IMPO. One way to know it's gain is by the noise. Is the ref's sound distorted? To me, that's usually indicative that the input volume is too high and the signal to noise too low. If not, and if it's high-band feedback, then maybe modulate the EQ the highs.

Anyway, you're dead on, there's no reason to have that happening and a knowledgeable sound tech could easily fix it.
Neither of you are wrong, but it may be more difficult than you think; the loudspeakers are probably aimed too much on the field, causing the feedback. Or they could be poor quality (was the installation low bid?) and sprays sound in all directions rather than focus on the audience areas. Either situation would make correcting the issue through gain structure and/or eq difficult.

Agreed. It's like a basketball team full of studs and a Mark Price/Kenny Anderson to get the ball to them. Credit CBF for moves like putting Haynes at RB where he could touch the ball more. He may not have been able to break through that lineup of WRs we now have. Plus... it gives us another receiver out of the backfield. Most of all, though, CBF is actually using the various weapons he has at his disposal - most notably the TE. When is the last time we had a TE who had TD catches in 2 consecutive games? Early 2000's maybe?

My expectation is that CBF was using the last two games to see who can play and who is just a practice warrior, as well as to get King and the O used to a multifaceted approach. This is what UGAg has been doing the past 3-4 years. Just too many weapons to cover effectively. All it took was a QB who could grasp that and get the ball to them. Well, Haynes King is twice the athlete that SB was. I think Pyron is likely better, too.

We haven't seen an O this diversified since the days of Joe Ham. It will get tougher, for sure, and we'll likely have days that it's like slogging through molasses, depending on the opposing D, but most teams on our schedule this season won't be able to slow it down much, if at all. IMPO, the constraining factor for this team this season is going to be the D and how fast they can grow together and shore things up.

Imagine if our OL ever gets more consistent in pass and run blocking? King has two more years of eligibility correct? If so then we can be very good in the next few years for sure. As for our LBs, it was good to see B Oliver play well. Efford's 'one to watch' at LB. Then throw in a kid like CJ Jackson (who would come in next year as an LB. We could be in good shape. I'd like to see Meguiez in the mix too eventually. Back to the offense, I just hope we can keep Faulker around for a while. I'm OK with paying him top $ to stay. He has been utilizing the TEs well through 2 games. :)

Under the old pregame system, the band plays at the campanile like an hour and a half before KO. Then they play at the library, then march down to the stairs. The band is in the tunnel about 30 minutes before KO, and enters the field for pregame at 18 minutes (If I remember correctly). The band is not keeping people from getting into the stadium for Kickoff.

Faulkner needs to be paid well for his services. He has made a world of difference already - from attracting talent (I don't think we get King, Lane, Blaylock, or Seither w/o him, TBH), to coaches, to system, to on-field performance.

I agree Faulkner is probably gone within a couple of years if he keeps his offense humming like it is now. Obviously, we can't keep him from pursuing a HC job if a school offers him one, but we can keep another school from poaching him as an OC.
