Program Resets: 2020 Edition

Would either want that job over their current gig? Not sure I would.
I think most of these guys want to see if they can cut it at the next level. Spurrier left Florida for the Redskins. Is Vanderbilt anywhere near as poor as Georgia Tech? If not, maybe they can buy one of them.

It's not a great job, but they are definitely not poor.

Nope. Not a great job at all. But enough $$$ is a proven way to get folks to take bad jobs.

F$U has punted on the season. Next week's game against Miami already canceled . . . the announcement I saw was vague. Seems like maybe F$U went to the ACC and asked it to bail out F$U. So F$U canceled sure-fire ass-kickings by Clemson, Virginia and Miami and has no more games scheduled. Fortunately they were able to notch a win against Jacksonville State earlier before their Covid issues just made it impossible to play.

This post does not compute. We had a kicker that was perfect the year before CGC's arrival.

This is about the millionth time somebody has brought Wells up. The dude had the yips last year and completely lost it between the ears. He could barely make an XP off a stand in warm ups. When he got the opportunity, he even missed one in a game. Past success doesn't always equal current success, especially with kickers. They are like golfers. You wouldn't say, "Tiger won last week by 10 strokes, why didn't he win all the tournaments?"

Hmm.

Ya know, we ought to hire some dude whose entire priority is the kicking game. That would be like all he did year round - just the kicking game. We couild call him a Special Teams coach. Whaddayathink?
What if I told you that the ST coach doesn't actually coach the kickers on HOW to kick? That guy is an auxiliary coach (always has been) that is more of a consultant-type role I believe. For one, not even sure if we have those this year with COVID rules/protocols and budget issues. For two, IIRC, it's the same kicking coach we've had for years (Butker, etc.).

Golfing may be slightly harder than field goal kicking tho.

Happens to golfers. Happens to relief pitchers. Happens to kickers.

Doesn't matter which of the above is easy or hard. They all involve moving parts that need to work in synch or you suck. The synch part is totally mental, and hard to predict. The only one to fix it, if it is fixable, is the athlete. Coaches are helpless.

Hope Wells goes on and has a great career. However, that is not the way to bet.
