Program Resets: 2020 Edition

Nebraska I can understand, but how can the mighty fall that fast?
With their resources?

It seems like if your state has good HS FB you can rebound pretty quickly. But if you lose "the sizzle" at places like Tennessee, Nebraska and Michigan where you depend heavily on out of state recruits, it is harder to get the genie back in the bottle. Kids today probably don't know those programs were ever considered to be premier as they have been down for so long.

Right, because only comparing WL and recruiting rankings actually matters. FSU and GT have zero other differences that could factor in to the mix.

Do you think Norvell and Collins should both be on the hot seat??

I can think of one other difference. GT has a better football team than FSU this year.

Their fans will get a rude awakening on where they are in the pecking order. Not that great of a job. Maybe they go after the Coastal Carolina coach, but their fans probably think they should do better.

Having a big VT friend. They absolutely think they're better. Hiring the ex Memphis coach should have been a sign.

VT is an absolute joke. They had a few decent runs but nothing of consequence. Yet, their fans believe they are a legit program. They aren’t close. Why ESPN and others pumped up a do nothing program for so long is beyond me.

From 1995 to 2011 they played in 8 major bowls, a terrific run, but only won 2 of those 8. Since 2011, very pedestrian. Before 1995, a complete joke. Goes with the regional mentality - I grew up there, escaped to go to GT.
I watched Frank Beamer play, saw one good year with a pretty exciting QB named Don Strock. Guy from my church built Lane stadium. Could have gone to VPI on full ride, went to GT instead, no regrets.
VPI probably still has a good pipeline to Newport Bad News talent, the challenge is keeping them out of jail. I know through my close family inside connection to Beamer that the coach was on his way to meet with Marcus Vick about rejoining the team when VPI president called him and told him hell no, Vick’s gone.
Enough said, to hell with vpi.

Yeah my brother went there, a handful of friends growing up, and now I’m surrounded by them in DC. Most of the them are my age and grew up during their run so all they know was their peak. Their pay boards mention GT among the teams they should be beating every year. That should tell you just about all you need to know about they warped sense of self.

Their pipeline is evaporated by the way. That’s why their recruiting is bottom of the conference right now. One of the top OL for 2022 in the country lives in their backyard and I think is a legacy. He just announced a Top 8 without VT in it (and with UVA). They haven’t gotten a Top 15 guy in-state since like 2018 or something crazy.

I think this is a very astute observation.

Neither. At all. But FSU has proven they have an itchy trigger finger AND nobody thinks their cupboard was that bare AND it should be easier to reload.

Also he took a self inflicted bullet to the buttocks in Game 1 after passing on Sims.

So we should be rebounding pretty quickly huh?

GT. Nebraska. Michigan. Tennessee. One of these is not like the others.

I do think we can rebound, but not as quickly as a "flagship" school can. Those schools are located in areas without as much HS talent. We are in one of the top 3 -5 talent producing states but have other obstacles to overcome. No need to rehash those here.

FSU has shown some improvement over the year over the first game. We pressured their QB all day long.

The situations are different both in fanbase expectations and off season landmines. Norvell’s seat is hotter because of both.

Norvell inherited a Top 10ish talent team with a couple 1st rounders in the upcoming draft and laid an egg. With the expectations that Seminole fans have, that’s makes a short leash shorter.

But what really is causing concern over Norvell is the two self-inflicted wounds in the off-season. First, arguably the best DT in the country leads a boycott of practice after you lied to the media saying you talked to every player on the team individually about racial justice. Then like a month later the team boycotts again because of how you’re handling COVID.

Lump that all together and he better pray that true frosh QB he took over Sims get his öööö together quickly. Because if he struggles to an 0-2 start in 2021 while Sims is holding his own with us then the chatter of cutting him loose will grow.

This makes me curious. Do FSU boards have threads on Jeff Sims to this day? Do uga boards have threads on Justin Fields to this day?

'cause my popcorn is ready
