Program Resets: 2020 Edition

Right now we're blowing into the bottom of the cartridge every week, shoving it back into the NES, and hoping the game loads up. Michigan is licking theirs, and doesn't even have their AV cables plugged in. Penn State was arrested for coming within 100ft of the Nintendo store. Florida State is desperately trying to hang themselves with their controller cord.

FSU is not going to be good again for quite some time, I think. Michigan is probably a firing, a hiring, and two or three great recruiting classes away from restoring the illusion of their relevance. Penn State, I dunno, öööö em.

I think we will start winning and bowling again before any of them.
 
Norvell is NOT an example of reset or hot seat. He is an example of losing the team.

As others imply FSU has dug a hole and should be patient but I expect if 2021 is awful for them that Norvell’s seat will be very hot.
 
Also, I expect that more programs than normal will push a decision for 1 year because of COVID. Nothing is normal and the spring will not be 100% normal even in the best case scenario.

FSU has imploded, but is not on the verge of purging the coaching staff they just hired. Franklin will get at least one more year in recognition of past performance. Harbaugh could be done, and should be IMO.

I think that the Auburn fanbase has had it with Malzahn. He has a decent team this year, but still could be gone - especially if he loses to Bama again, as he almost surely will. Tennessee fans have about had it with Pruitt, too. I saw this headline:" Eight Tennessee football assistant coaches have declined proposed pay cuts as the athletic department deals with a $40 million loss in revenue during the coronavirus pandemic." So that is no bueno. Both of these schools seem to me to have very unrealistic fan bases, living on past glories.

Tom Herman has not delivered what hook-em-horns fans expected. Don't know how much longer he has. Same for Scott Frost. But both programs imploded a while ago - especially Nebraska But I think both coaches get one more year unless they totally collapse.

I think with little to no fan revenue, and in view of the Wuhan Chinese Flu, a fair number of schools are going to just write off 2020 and be unwilling to eat money on an existing contract. So guys who should not be safe, probably will be safe.

Malzahn lost 3 in a row to uga too. Definitely a warm seat there.

If Tennessee is cutting salaries, there are very few schools with the funds to buy out a coach this year. By the way, everyone at Tennessee took a cut except the coaches under contract who refused and Pruitt who simply deferred a raise. This was a smart move by the coaches since one or more will probably be sacrificed by Pruitt at the end of the season.

Auburn has had something like 2 or 3 national titles in the last 20 years? Not too bad when considering who is usually claiming titles. It’s unrealistic to expect them to go over .500 against their biggest rivals + win it all with any consistency.
 
I wanted to list Texas but then they knocked off top ten OSU this year so Herman will hang around another year.

They’ve got two ever. And as many wins against UGA as we do in the last 14 years. I unfortunately see a lot of Auburn twitter and they’re just a really weird fan base. They’re biggest accomplishment is being Alabama’s rival.
