Word is Michigan is working on an extension with Harbaugh. Surprised they’re willing to extend a coach who is 0-5 against the heated rival.

Kind of shocked by this too. Don’t know how you possibly extend the guy
 
I think Sark will take a similar trajectory as Herman at Texas. It is arguably the most political job in college football... needs a statesman head coach that can recruit and hire, not a coordinator bringing a scheme. Hope it works out for him regardless.

I have gotten to the point that I really don't want to see GT spend another penny on buyouts. In the future, whenever the head FB or BB coach has to go, just let them finish their contracts quietly. It's ridiculous to be continually asked to donate for things because we need to fundraise and then pay millions for someone NOT to come to work. If Texas has that kind of money, then they can do with it what they please. I am talking GT specifically here.

Actually, this was UT boosters wagging the dog and getting Herman canned. So this is them spending their own money.

I would love to see a school just say we are going to give FCS and DII coaches shots at the big-time with no buyouts.

Seems like a fair solution, especially since spending crazy money is no guarantee of anything. Or worse, lottery ticket contracts (ahem, CPH) can actually cause a coach to retire on the job. Plus, failure at a HC job doesn't prevent you from being a HC again. Plenty of guys have been fired and found work elsewhere, albeit usually at a lower level. Or they can stay at higher levels as an assistant. The only downside is that it might be a bit of a PR headache but if the athletic departments are as strapped for cash as they say they are, so be it.

This would also have a ripple effect on the entire personnel budget. It's hard to pay the women's VB or men's track coach 60k a year if the men's FB and BB coaches are making 7 figures. But if your revenue producing guys are making more reasonable salary then it becomes easier to pay the non revenue sports coaches what they are worth.

We'll see. I think you are more likely to see seat license increases and ticket price increases and larger donation requirements for season ticket holders, pass only parking at high cost, etc. though. And if you bitch about it you're not worthy of being a fan of your team.

Good question. Not really sure. It seems like their recruiting was okay, but still probably only 3rd in their division. Maybe Gus lost his edge on offense and other teams just caught up.
