Pyron’s a helluva Quarterback

This is like the hire Key thread after we beat Pitt. Let’s see a little more than barely beating one of the worst P5 teams in the land
I saw all I needed to know about Pyron after that final TD he scored against FSU. It was obvious then, that even though it didn't matter that the game was already lost, he still WANTED that TD, and he got it. The kid is a baller, and perhaps the most determined QB I have seen on the Flats since Nesbitt.

Like what I heard about Key after Pitt…..looks good early but we shall see

No, because he obviously has a good base and a level head.

I'm with you on this. Sims makes mistakes on the field, but I certainly don't have anything negative to say about him as a person. None of his coaches have done anything but rave about his work ethic. We have consistently been a better team with him than without. Injuries happen and the players don't generally have a lot of control over them, they're just unfortunate.

I'm excited about Pyron, but it doesn't make me think less of Sims.

I imagine most of y'all are way too young to remember this, or even be aware of it, but in the early '60's there was an eerily similar situation at Tech at the QB position. In 1958, Bobby Dodd signed an Atlanta kid named Stan Gann, who was the most sought-after QB in the south. He had to sit out the '59 season due to injury, but in '60 he stepped on the field and almost instantly lived up to his pre-signing credentials. But then in '61, along came another star QB named Billy Lotheridge who "stole" the job from Gann and went on to become Tech's greatest QB up until then and one of the greatest Tech QB's of all time. Jesse Outlar of the AJC wrote a fantastic article about Gann after this change occurred, in which he praised Gann for being a man and not whining or quitting but accepting the fact that someone else was better, and he was happy holding the ball for Lotheridge's FG attempts. From the way that Sims reacted to the situation yesterday, I think we might have another "real man" in him, as he probably loses, if he hasn't already lost, the starting job at QB. I am attaching Outlar's column here. The last line says it all.

Nice stuff! And you are right. A little later on Jerry Priestley also passed the baton to Lothridge. The 1962 team was very good; they lost to LSU because Joe Auer dropped the winning TD, and stubbed their toe against Auburn, otherwise they were dominant

not sure pyron's star rating, but with his HS resume, surprises me he ended up here. since we're still paying geoff, can we at least get him to keep recruiting for us. used car salesman one thing he actually can do.
