QB battle

I like Paterdude, i just want to see some results. I can give a pass for the shit show of 2019. That line wasn't worth a damn and he had to start a redshirt frosh at QB who is honestly more of an option QB (just meaning he's behind in understanding of reading defenses, footwork, calling protections, etc.). We certainly improved as time went on, as did Graham himself. Graham has some special abilities but is developing as a QB.

Graham had a nice interview this week where he fessed up to each of those shortcomings and says he's been working hard on it. You tell the truth in this program.

We should be better on the OL, but the initial optimism has eroded with some defections and with no real fall camp and the silly-ass schedule. Four wins with an uptick in overall offensive performance would be a testament to CBK, CDP, and CTC. Nothing observed last year was conclusive that we have a stellar teaching staff because the players didn't fit the programs goals. We've upgraded the talent some. How much? I think we can hope for improvement, but we still have two more recruiting classes.

Yates is gonna beat Graham out to start imo.

I mean, they haven't even gotten into pads yet so there really is no way to know. But I think Yates outworked Graham this summer.

I think Yates is more accurate on the short and intermediate routes we need to move the ball down the field consistently. Haven’t seen the deep ball from him yet, but like the skill set he brings. That said, I don’t see Patenaude giving him a fair shot due to his height.

I expect Yates to start vs. FSU and Sims to win the job during the season. But... Either TFr could get the game week decision @FSU and keep the job for 4 years.

This. The limitation on the two freshmen is learning the playbook. None of the other guys showed enough last year to indicate a lock on the position.

The best outcome would be for Graham to have light cut on and he gets “it” along with an improved oline. He has all the physical capabilities. And the next three are right there behind him, with the true freshman redshirting. We get these true freshman in the next few years behind a big and experienced line.

Anyway, I hope who ever gets the job leads us to victories.

Dude is a clown. There's not a single other P5 school that would hire him at OC.

The thing is CGC has connections from his previous stops there is no way this is the best OC we can attract. It is baffling really.

It was going to be hard to get a top shelf OC. Anyone was going to take school me lumps converting from the 3o.

I think Pat is betting on himself. He isn’t getting paid very much. If he craps the bed, we get a better OC in year 3 or 4. In the meantime, we don’t pay top dollar for someone to convert the O to generic ncaa. If he does well, he will get p5 OC type money.

I wouldnt touch predicting future coaching salaries with a 10 foot pole. Most athletic departments are gonna get crushed financially.

I respect Pat for taking on the challenge. His interviews are really good and IMO, he appears to get it. I hope he makes the most of this opportunity he has.

Fair point. Legitimate P5 QB play has been pretty rare here over the last 20 years
That's ok though. We don't need a system that works around our recruiting deficiencies. We just need to ignore football for 2 or 7 years in a row until we finally win a recruiting competition against Georgia. It'll totally work. I'm in.

Knowing Paterude he'll run Graham out there for two plays, then sub in Yates for a play, then punt
Repeat for a couple drives then he'll also start subbing in other the QBs randomly

Repeat

Sims and Gleason have much higher up sides. I trust the coaches to make the best long term decision. That may also be the best short term decision. Decision making and accuracy are more important than running ability going forward.
