Ranking our regular season opponents

I just ran into this article: Vols football staff monitors players' workloads with GPS, satellite systems

I figured enough UT players would've been wearing ankle bracelets to make this system redundant.

Haha well played. Despite our not so stellar past, Butch has recruited some quality guys.
Alabama is vulnerable? Where?

I said I could hope, they have so much draft turnover they're going to be lacking some experience. I'm just hoping for some growing pains.

And I don't hate Tennessee. In fact, I took this pic on one of my trips up. I normally sit in the endzone chairbacks. I prefer endzone seats, even at our place.

I've probably attended 20 or so Tennessee games in my life - not counting the ones at Grant Field back in the day.

I believe we are 1 of 2 schools that have never lost 8 games. We won't lose that many games, probably 3 or 4.
That's actually a pretty cool stat. Reminds me of our bowl streak... seemed kinda lame till suddenly it broke.

That said, I just noticed that you've played UGA only a couple times more than you've played us... why didn't UT play UGA back in the old days?

Because UGAg got fat wins over the Mississippi schools and Kentucky while GT manned up and played Tennessee, Alabama, and Notre Dame.

Prefer the end zone. You can see blocking lanes open up and the passing routes are more clear.
I'll give you that, but I found every other aspect of sitting in the endzone to be worse than along the sidelines. The upper east is a pretty good spot for watching our plays develop and I don't have to check the scoreboard to find out how many yards a run went for.

I don't either. I have never had a problem seeing yardage. It is just what you get used to. I have had season tix everywhere in our stadium, other than Wardlaw terrace, and I like the ones I have now most.

Aye, I imagine you do get used to it. But I've been sitting in the UE almost exclusively since 2001 and never in the north or south. My experiences in endzone seats were bowl games.

You really do get used to it. I normally can say "touchdown" on a running play when the ball is handed off because of how clear the blocking is from endzone seats. Of course, CPJ's first year there, I had trouble even telling who had the ball. I imagine a defensive coach who has not coached against the option often struggles with our offense. It is why coaches from Tennessee are visiting VT and Clemson and hoping for some sort of insight on how to stop us. Other teams and their fans can bad talk our offense all they want, but I love watching opposing fans despair when they realize that there is nothing they can do to stop us from running the ball down their throats once we get on a roll.

My favorite is "your offense is boring." Symptoms of boredom may include getting gashed for 60 yards on one play.

Ranking our opponents...
1. Clemson. They're still going to be pretty good.
2. Miami. Overrated but good. Let's see how Bye Felicia's son's successor does.
3.-11. The rest of the FBS foes. I don't think Duke and UNC are going to be very good. Pitt lost a ton. Wake is Wake. Georgia has talent but I still think their O line and receivers aren't going to be all that and Eason will flame out in a hurry. The Vols lost a bunch on both sides - no Dobbs, no Barnett, no Reeves-Maybin, and the new QBs are really untested. Va Tech lost a lot. UVa sucks. Don't know what to expect from UCF,
All those teams have flaws, some quite glaring. We've got ours too to be sure but frankly, I'm not all that worried.
12. Jacksonville State. This won't be easy. They've always got talent and this is a very good FCS program, plus it's a very short week.

the bottom four offenses, in both yards and points per game, in the SEC last year were in the SEC East and of the bottom six, five were in the SEC East. They can talk "going up against SEC defenses" all they want, but the fact is the offenses in the SEC East suck ass. Those four were ranked 77th or worse nationally and two of them set up shop in the 100s in national offensive rankings.
The best offense statistically last year in the SEC East ... Missouri.

I would imagine it was the forming of the divisions in 1992. We didn't play Florida or Georgia that often, and now they're our main rivals. Bama, Auburn, UK, Vandy and Ole Miss were our traditional rivals. I'm 35, so Florida and Bama top my list.

I didn't realize it until today, and maybe I'm mistaken, but you guys seem thin as hell at almost every offensive position. Defense isn't nearly as bad, but there seems to be a lot of straw and sticks on the other side of your 2-deep.
Exactly.

I don't think you are mistaken about our depth at certain spots. I think we finally have decent depth at the o-line., which is obviously something every team wants. Our D line has some issues, but the 1's are very good. The linebacker crew has some experience and will be better than most expect. The skill positions remain to be seen. I expect a big season out of our running back John Kelly.
