Who is to blame?

Edit: This is a poll for those of you on Tapatalk.

No

But they certainly didn't do us any favors.

Less than optimum calls from the perspective of one team's fans are just part of the game. There were calls that the Notre Dame bench and fans howled about also. Just part of the whole experience of college football.

Our team played poorly enough for most if the game to lose all by themselves. However, I was very proud of their tenacity in the last two minutes. I actually saw a chance to win until the second on sides kickoff.

Notre Dame's defensive front reminded me of Iowa. They stayed disciplined to stringing out our outside options using the sideline as a 12th defender. We haven't yet broken the code on dominating a top 10 team when they bring their "A" game.

I voted 'No' but they certainly had a hand in it.

33% each

1. Notre Dame's defense
2. Our kicker
3. The terrible officiating

I would 100% agree with this. You take any 2 of the three away, and we win.

Yeah, I am never one to blame refs for losses but these guys were really bad officials. From the upper level, two of their long catches were obvious push-offs, #78 held a lot, and during their long run in the fourth, there was a pretty big hold on our guy in the backfield who was about to make the hit on Prosise which knocked him off line of making the hit, and a horse collar tackle on Thomas.

But again, if we didn't play so badly on offense, none of this would have mattered.

Bigtime hold on Jabari on Prosise's long run.

Also, I didn't see them on TV, but I distinctly remember 2 replays in the first half that Sean Bedford all but guaranteed they'd be overturned and they weren't.

The calls were pivotal calls or non-calls that all seemd to break their way.
We could not get over them.

ACC making up for FSU last season.

That being said our kicking sucked and the ND defense really had our number. Jaylon Smith ran down a RB in coverage on an A Back seam route. That's all you need to know.

Hard to tell for sure from the stands and without the benefit of replays, but both of Fuller's long receptions sure looked like blanket coverage with a pushoff to create separation. And the first one was huge. 3rd and 20 with the defense about to force two punts to start the game. Should have been 3rd and 30 from their own 40ish. Instead it's 7-0 and set the tone of the game.

Seemed like a lot of late hits that went uncalled, but none of them egregious.

I couldn't see where they called the hold on JT5s TD run, but I'd like to know people's thoughts if it existed. Not sure if I have it in me to watch my DVR of the game.

Also, on one of their late drives, it looked clear as day from the stands that a long completion had bounced of the turf first. Our team had 4 or 5 guys react in disbelief when it was called a catch, and even the ND fans around us were yelling for them to snap it quick. Took about 15-20 seconds for them to snap it and no video replay, I thought that was odd.

At the end of the day though, that's the worst our offense has looked since 2013, so who knows if we would have won anyway.

I honestly did not notice any calls that stood out to me as bad.

I actually thought we caught a break on the ND fumble. I didnt think the receiver ever had possession and I thought they were going to overturn that one.

Maybe I missed some calls, but the talk of poor officiating is a complete surprise to me. "No" vote for me.

edit: as far as push offs, the only thing I noticed on the long pass was our DB being in position but getting turned around and falling down, just like the Tulane TD. Ill have to check out the replay.

Definitely not. The push off on the second third and long was so blatant I could see it from the upper deck, but we didn't lose because of one or two very bad calls, and there weren't really more than that.

I might feel differently if our offense hadn't been thoroughly dominated on all fronts, but in general I think that blaming the refs is mainly just an excuse because both sides always think the calls go against them. The only times I've really felt differently are the U[sic]GA debacles.

1. Tech offense horrible performance
2. Notre Dame's D
3. Tech special teams
4. Refs

I thought this was a poll to determine if we should have refs for our next game.

There were a few calls that went against us, but ND was the better team and deserved to win. A call here and a call there go our way and the game might've been closer than the 30-7 score, but regardless, based on what I saw, I think that team beats us 9 out of 10 times we play.

which is a stupid metric because nobody plays another 10 times in one season.

Overheard on ST after the 2016 Superbowl....
