Refs or not the refs?

Did the refs lose the game for us?

Hard to tell for sure from the stands and without the benefit of replays, but both of Fuller's long receptions sure looked like blanket coverage with a pushoff to create separation. And the first one was huge. 3rd and 20 with the defense about to force two punts to start the game. Should have been 3rd and 30 from their own 40ish. Instead it's 7-0 and set the tone of the game.

Seemed like a lot of late hits that went uncalled, but none of them egregious.

I couldn't see where they called the hold on JT5s TD run, but I'd like to know people's thoughts if it existed. Not sure if I have it in me to watch my DVR of the game.

Also, on one of their late drives, it looked clear as day from the stands that a long completion had bounced of the turf first. Our team had 4 or 5 guys react in disbelief when it was called a catch, and even the ND fans around us were yelling for them to snap it quick. Took about 15-20 seconds for them to snap it and no video replay, I thought that was odd.

At the end of the day though, that's the worst our offense has looked since 2013, so who knows if we would have won anyway.
Did not happen. Not even close. But to answer the question of the poll. ND beat up on us pretty good but we could have pulled it out with a few breaks.

This game was not close enough to blame the outcome on officiating. But, ND was aided by a crew that never saw them hold or push off when the cameras caught it easily several times. And, throwing the late flag on Joe's block to take a TD off the board was a pivotal play and a very poor call. I hate that when a defensive player falls to the ground a lazy official thinks that is evidence enough that there must have been holding. Sometimes the guy just got blocked well and then lost his balance. You can't assume he was tackled just because he is in the ground.

They controlled the game throughout and deserved to win. We owned them in the last couple minutes and almost stole one. 30-22.

Almost stole one? We needed a series of events to go our way that were very, very unlikely.

1. Recover onside kick.
2. Drive 55+ yards in 22 seconds with 0 timeouts.
3. Go for 2 points and get it.
4. Win in Overtime on the road against a superior opponent

Personally, I put the chances of all of that happening at less than 1%.

Ah the old "realize my argument is wrong so refocus onto something else he said and dissect it" routine. Classic.

My point stands. We were never close to winning even at the end and they dominated the game. The extra TDs were great window dressing to a beat down.

Did you watch the game?

Yep, live and in person. I watched us move 50 yards in 3 plays to pull to within one possession with enough time to recover a kick and toss a few into the endzone. There have been far crazier comebacks than that in the last season. Hell Houston did almost that exact thing in the bowl season to Pitt. It's window dressing if the game is out of reach. That game was most definitely not out of reach down 8 with 30 seconds to go.

Would they have been window dressing if we recover that last kick? You're just arguing a dumb point here. I'm not saying they didn't outplay us overall. I'm not saying we deserved to win. I'm saying our offense dominated them for the last 3 minutes and you could feel the nervous energy in the stadium because the game was in doubt with the score 30-22.

You can live in that hypothetical World. I live in reality. Congrats on your moral victory TDs. That game was never in question in the 2nd half.

You're still mixing arguments. Not calling it a moral victory. We had a very real chance to force OT at the end, but lost. We're 2-1 and probably deserve to be.

But whatever if you don't get it then you're not going to. We can discuss via PMs if you want rather than hijacking the thread any further.

Probably deserve to be? What? Yes we deserve to be 2-1 right now.

Corndog bee trolling.

Go ahead and tell everyone that the refs did a solid job.

gtrower, we had less chance to win that game than the uga game last year before the kick. But it wasn't mathematically impossible. Still the rest of the game we played like crap offensively and kinda brought it on ourselves.

corndog, you know what he's trying to say. This wasn't like Miss State bs td at the end of orange bowl last year. There was a very low chance for us to come back and the team fought to do that after falling asleep most of the game. You can stop trolling him now.

Or both of you get a room if there's one available.

The game could have gotten closer if we didn't keep running the full 40 seconds off the clock in the 4th quarter when we had the ball. That being said, we were not the better team.

0:46. There are two angles. Was a blatant hold right in front of the ref. Three HUGE plays for them on missed calls and 1 called back TD on a questionable one for us? That's a 28 point swing. 3 of their 4 TDs were the benefactor of terrible missed calls. Say what you want about getting outplayed by their D, but if even two of those 4 calls are made correctly we win the game.

:bigcry:

Not saying the refs were perfect, but it isn't why we lost. We lost because they physically dominated us all over the field. If anyone seriously thinks we lost because of the refs, you they are an idiot.

Sorry, but I've got to jump in and ask a question here...how do you define "very real chance"?

I agree we could have done it and ND was certainly trying at the end, but to say we had a "very real" chance to recover an onside kick, score a touchdown from midfield in 22 seconds, convert a 2 point attempt, and then beat a team in OT that had dominated us most of the day (but admittedly not those last two minutes) seems to border on extreme hyperbole. It was a chance...but it would have taken a miracle even at that point.

Who is trolling? The team fought hard to the whistle which was great. However, we weren't ever going to win that game. It wasn't a close game. We made it deceptively close at the end. I don't know why this is controversial. Some butts be hurting too much to think logically.

These are the people who have voted that "yes, the refs lost us the game."

BEEFENSE, BigDanT, DediKtd2GT, gogt5, GTMensLax&SoccerD1Soon!, Hoffie7, JohnnyThunderstorm, michaelreich, northaugustabuzz, OmnipoTech, RamblinWreckT, SimpleGT

They deserve ridicule.

There were a bunch of things that lost the game. Blocking, they're defense, our miscues, and yes the refs. As I said earlier, your talking about a real 28 point swing. Regardless of how bad we played that's pretty tough to overcome. I would say that was as equally impactful as all of the other factors.

Take away the ND TD caused by a push-off, add back the GT TD called back due to holding, and you get a GT win. But it wouldn't have been a win GT deserved based on quality of play.
