Refs or not the refs?

Did the refs lose the game for us?

There were a few calls that went against us, but ND was the better team and deserved to win. A call here and a call there go our way and the game might've been closer than the 30-7 score, but regardless, based on what I saw, I think that team beats us 9 out of 10 times we play.

Final score was 30-22.

Thanks to a couple garbage time TDs. They whooped us up and down the field.

Garbage time? Really? Those scores brought us to within one score of taking the game to OT. Should CPJ had just given up?

It's not like the final score was 40-22. If that were the case, I would agree those scores were meaningless window dressing.

He doesn't like anything taken away from his "I told you so". You know how we Tech fans would rather be right than to win a big game.

It made things closer no doubt, however any logical viewer would've said the game was closer to a 30-7 drubbing than a 30-22 'close game.' It was nice window-dressing on an otherwise hideous performance.

I'm glad we made the score closer, but the game was much more of a beating than the one-score final score showed.

Games are 60 minutes. If they don't come up with that last onside kick, they have a real shot at getting beat.

I've seen plenty of teams whip the opposition for 55 minutes but still lose the game because they feel the last 5 minutes were "garbage time".

The final will forever read 30-22 no matter how much you want to believe it was 30-7.

Shiiiiiii...

I picked us to win... so I started to buy into the hype as well. However, we were exposed in a big way against a bigger, faster, better coached team. It is what it is.

Here comes the Monday morning butthurt tsunami of 'what could've been' and excuses.

You are right... we had them right where we wanted them all along.

Right after the, this loss is actually good for us crowd and the 2016 is our year crowd.

We all deal with grief differently.

Their last TD was garbage time too.

The real score was 23-7, yeah still pretty bad...

They didn't lose the game for us but they didn't call a lot things that should have been called.

No, it wasn't 23-7 when everything is taken into account, obvious pushoffs, stepping out of bounds and coming back in to make a catch, phantom holding (where were Joe's arms!?), and lack of holding flag on their last run for a TD. Add in the calls that should have gone against us, and our lack of wr blocking, 2 missed field goals with theirs hitting the crossbar and bouncing in, to be honest, you have about a 21-14 game that they more than deserved. Their D simply beat our O-line. Our young A & B backs had nothing to do with it. Our young wr's did---they couldn't/didn't block worth a öööö. Actually Skov was our lone bright spot of the game.

Look, we are going to have to accept the fact that almost any ACC games can go either way with the historically worst conference officials that our young and old fans have ever seen at play. There's a reason ugag refuses to use them.

We got beat by a better team. Now, the challenge is to make sure we don't lose two games last Saturday. It's happened a lot to many teams. This is the responsibility of the coaches and upperclassmen players.

Look at the stats--they got more penalties/yds than us--may have deserved more--BUT the stats don't show a huge problem.

True, but the penalties against us were more impactful (i.e., taking points off the board) than the handful of false starts and such that didn't particularly hinder ND. Some of the apparent no-calls were frustrating, too.

The refs didn't cost us the game - credit to ND for executing a good defensive scheme well - but they certainly didn't help. :-)

It's not garbage time when both teams have their starters in and the game is still possibly in doubt. I could somewhat agree with you on the TD that gave us 15. Maybe they were in prevent and let us march up the field while burning clock. But the TD that cut it to 8 is just our offense beating their defense. Great play on a long ball that they cannot give up in that situation. Then an open WR in the endzone that they can't allow (TD called back) then a LB who couldn't keep up with our BB in open space. That was our offense flat out beating them for 3 straight plays to make it a one possession game with 30 seconds left.

I'd rather have it have been a close game throughout (it pretty much was until the 4th). But this wasn't your average backup QB padding stats against 3rd string defense end of game scenario. They were calling timeouts on defense, playing their starters, and we were a few big plays away from forcing OT.

They controlled the game throughout and deserved to win. We owned them in the last couple minutes and almost stole one. 30-22.
